Todd Helton getting his groove back for the Colorado Rockies

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, Playing Well by chinmusic on Saturday 28 April 2007 at 1:12 am

Todd Helton is swinging a good stick for the Rockies so far this season.  In the off season the Rockies came close to trading Helton to the Red Sox but I bet they’re happy that they didn’t right now.  In 21 games so far this season, Helton is 27 for 74 (.365 avg, .964 OPS) with 9 runs scored, 1 homer and 14 RBIs.  If Helton keeps this pace up the Rockies are going to score a lot of runs this season.

Manny Corpas has been outstanding so far for the Colorado Rockies

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, Throwing Well by chinmusic on Wednesday 25 April 2007 at 1:59 pm

Manny Corpas will now be elevated to the setup man role after Ramon Ramirez and LaTroy Hawkins have went down to injury.  In 11 games this season Corpas has a 0-1 record with a 0.77 ERA and a 0.60 WHIP.  He has been really nasty to hitters so far this season as he’s only allowed 5 hits and he’s whiffed 9 batters in 11.2 innings.  Corpas should be able to handle the 8th inning role for the Rockies and he might get to keep the job in he continues to pitch so well.

The Colorado Rockies place LaTroy Hawkins on the DL

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, Injuries by chinmusic on Wednesday 25 April 2007 at 1:33 pm

The Rockies have placed LaTroy Hawkins on the 15 day disabled list with right elbow inflammation.  I wonder if his elbow is really hurt or are just his feelings hurt from pitching so terrible?  Hawkins is 0-3 with a 8.59 ERA and a 2.05 WHIP so far this season.  In 7.1 innings this year Hawkins has allowed 11 hits, 7 earned runs and 4 walks, and that is terrible.  Lefty Tom Martin was activated to take Hawkins’ spot on the Rockies roster.

The Colorado Rockies need more from Troy Tulowitzki

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, In Need of a Slumpbuster by chinmusic on Tuesday 24 April 2007 at 6:47 pm

Troy Tulowitzki has had big problems with the bat in his hands and that better change soon if he wants to stay in the major leagues.  In 16 games this season Tulowitzki is 11 for 57 (.193 avg, .509 OPS) with 4 runs scored and 4 RBIs.  He has also whiffed 16 times already this season and that’s way to many for the style of hitter that Tulowitzki is.  Clint Barmes has been brought up by the Rockies to replace Kaz Matsui on the roster so Tulowitzki better get his act together quickly.

The Colorado Rockies had another sub par week

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, Weekly Results by chinmusic on Monday 23 April 2007 at 6:33 pm

The Rockies were 3-4 last week but they were outscored 41-21.  The Rockies need their bats to wake up soon or they are going to be in trouble.  The Rockies are currently in last place in the National League West, 5 games behind the LA Dodgers.

The Colorado Rockies place a couple pitchers on the DL

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, Injuries by chinmusic on Saturday 21 April 2007 at 11:03 pm

The Rockies have placed starter Rodrigo Lopez and reliever Ramon Ramirez both on the 15 day disabled list.  Lopez has tightness in his right elbow.  It’s a shame that Lopez hurt himself because he’s been really pitching good so far this season.  In three starts, Lopez has compiled a 1-0 record with a 1.59 ERA and a 1.00 WHIP.  Ramirez has a sprained right elbow and it’s hard to pitch with that.  Ramirez was also off to a great start as he was 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA and a 0.53 WHIP in 7 games so far this season.  The Rockies have recalled Ryan Speier and Bobby Keppel to take the roster spots of Lopez & Ramirez.

Chris Ianetta off to a poor start for the Colorado Rockies

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, In Need of a Slumpbuster by chinmusic on Thursday 19 April 2007 at 11:36 pm

Ianetta is off to a rough start in his first 8 games of the season as he’s only hitting .120 with a .418 OPS.  He’s 3 for 25 with 3 runs scored and 3 RBIs so far this season.  He’s been overmatched at the plate as he’s already whiffed 12 times this season.  Ianetta was the starting catcher going in to the season, but Yorvit Torrealba has played just as much as he has and Torrealba is playing well.  So, if Ianetta doesn’t start hitting he will likely return to AAA rather than sit on the Rockies’ bench.

The Colorado Rockies have placed Byung-Hyun Kim on the DL

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, Injuries by chinmusic on Wednesday 18 April 2007 at 8:59 am

The Rockies have placed righthander Byung-Hyun Kim on the 15-day disabled list with a thumb contusion.  He was off to a very bad start as he was 1-2 with a 10.50 ERA and a 1.67 WHIP so far this season.  In 6 innings this season, Kim has allowed 6 hits, 2 homers and has walked 4 batters.  He must pitch well when he returns or the Rockies might get rid of him.

The Colorado Rockies place Kaz Matsui on the DL

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, Injuries by chinmusic on Monday 16 April 2007 at 10:18 pm

The Rockies have placed hot-hitting Kaz Matsui on the 15-day disabled list with back spasms.  Matsui was off to a .361 start with a .867 OPS in 9 games this season.  He also has scored 6 runs, knocked in 3 and had 5 stolen bases already this season.  Jamey Carroll will likely take over for Matsui while he’s injured.  Carroll also is off to a fast start this season with a .389 batting average and a .976 OPS in his first 7 games.  He also has scored 5 runs and knocked in 2 so far this season.  The Rockies also recalled Clint Barmes to replace Jamey Carroll as the utility man.

The Colorado Rockies had a bad week

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, Weekly Results by chinmusic on Monday 16 April 2007 at 8:49 pm

The Rockies went 2-4 last week as they were outscored 22-21.  The Rockies wasted some pretty good pitching last week because their offense was stalling.  The Rockies are currently in 4th place in the National League West, 3.5 games behind the Arizona Diamondbacks.
