Willy Taveras to miss the first round of the playoffs for the Colorado Rockies

The Rockies will be without starting center fielder Willy Taveras for the series with the Phillies as he continues to recover from a right quadriceps injury.  Taveras will go to the Arizona Instructional League and he will re-join the Rockies in the N.L. Championship Series if they defeat the Phillies.  The Rockies will miss Taveras on defense as he is one of the better defensive centerfielders in the game.  He also hit well this season for the Rockies.  In 97 games this season, Taveras was 119 for 372 (.320 avg, .749 OPS) with 64 runs scored, 2 homers, 24 RBIs and 33 steals.  Despite those impressive numbers, his replacement has hit the ball really well.  Ryan Spilboroghs hit .299 with a .848 OPS in 97 games this season.
