Colorado Rockies 4, Philadelphia Phillies 2
The Phillies learned yesterday that success against a pitcher in the regular season doesn’t guarantee you’ll hit that same guy in the post-season. Jeff Francis had big problems against the Phillies during the year but you would never guess that by watching him pitch yesterday. He pitched 6 innings and he only allowed 4 hits, 2 earned runs, walked 2 batters and whiffed 8 on his way to being the winning pitcher. Relievers LaTroy Hawkins and Brian Fuentes followed Francis and each of them tossed a scoreless inning setting up closer Manny Corpas. Corpas pitched a hitless 9th inning to earn the save. Yorvit Torrealba, Todd Helton and Garrett Atkins each scored a run in the 2nd inning as the Rockies built a 3-0 lead against Cole Hamels of the Phillies. He then settled down until he was replaced by Tom Gordon in the 7 inning. But, in the 8th inning Matt Holliday hit a no doubt homer to pad the lead for the Rockies on their way to a big victory. The Rockies are now up 1-0 on the Phillies.
