Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Injuries by chinmusic on Saturday 3 May 2008 at 12:08 am

The Rockies will be without the reigning Rookie of the Year Troy Tulowitzki likely until the All-Star Break as he has a torn quadriceps tendon. Tulowitzki has not been himself all season long as he has looked lost with a bat in his hands. He has played in 26 games this season for the Rockies and he is 16 for 105 (.152 avg, .464 OPS) with 10 runs scored, 1 homer and 11 RBIs. Clint Barmes will take over as the starting shortstop for the Rockies until Tulowitzki is ready to return. Barmes has played in 19 games for the Rockies this season and he is 19 for 65 (.292 avg, .832 OPS) with 7 runs scored, 2 homers and 9 RBIs. Look for Barmes to do a good job for the Rockies.

De La Rosa has now pitched in 97 games (41 starts) in his major league career and he is 15-23 with a 5.85 ERA and a 1.74 WHIP. De La Rosa will replace Franklin Morales who was sent to the minors. Morales started 5 games for the Rockies this season and he was 1-2 with a 6.39 ERA and a 1.78 WHIP. Morales walked 17 batters in only 25.1 innings and it hurt him badly.

To get Grilli the Rockies sent 22-year old righty reliever Zach Simons to the Tigers. Simons has pitched in 7 games (0 starts) in A ball and he is 1-0 with a 2.70 ERA and a 1.58 WHIP. This was a good trade for the Rockies who needed help in the bullpen now.
