The Rockies have placed veteran catcher Yorvit Torrealba on the 15-day disabled list with a torn meniscus in his left knee. He played in 70 games for the Rockies this season and he was 58 for 236 (.246 avg, .687 OPS) with 19 runs scored, 6 homers and 31 RBIs. Chris Iannetta will take over as the starting catcher the rest of the season and he was outplaying Torrealba this season anyway. He has played in 80 games this season for the Rockies and he is 72 for 262 (.275 avg, .911 OPS) with 37 runs scored, 14 homers and 52 RBIs. The Rockies have recalled 36-year old switch hitting catcher Adam Melhuse to back up Iannetta the rest of the season. Melhuse played in 37 games in Rookie and AAA ball this season and he was 29 for 102 (.284 avg, .844 OPS) with 15 runs scored, 3 homers and 17 RBIs. Melhuse also has played in 8 games for the Rangers this season and he is 4 for 20 (.200 avg, .473 OPS) with 1 run scored and 1 RBI. Melhuse has been a solid backup catcher in his career so he should do a good job for the Rockies in September. Melhuse has now played in 307 games in his major league career and he is 171 for 729 (.235 avg, .681 OPS) with 74 runs scored, 24 homers and 97 RBIs.
