The Colorado Rockies let Willy Taveras go
The Rockies decided not to tender 27-year old righty swinging outfielder Willy Tavares a contract for the 2009 season. He played in 133 games for the Rockies last season and he was 120 for 479 (.251 avg, .604 OPS) with 64 runs scored, 1 homer, 26 RBIs and 68 stolen bases. He has now played in 541 games in his major league career and he is 558 for 1,973 (.283 avg, .668 OPS) with 295 runs scored, 7 homers, 109 RBIs and 169 stolen bases. The Rockies won’t miss Taveras much as Ryan Spilboroghs will likely get his big shot to start in CF for the Rockies in 2009.
