The Colorado Rockies acquire Matt Murton
The Rockies have acquired 27-year old righty swinging outfielder Matt Murton from the A’s for 25-year old switch hitting 2B Corey Wimberly. Murton played in 28 games for the A’s and Cubs last season in which he was 13 for 70 (.186 avg) with 3 runs scored and 8 RBIs. He has now played in 317 games in his major league career in which he is 259 for 900 (.288 avg, .792 OPS) with 127 runs scored, 28 homers, 106 RBIs and 8 stolen bases. The Rockies needed a righty swinging outfielder and Matt Murton definately fits the bill. The bonus was that the price was right as Wimberly is a fringe prospect. He played in 108 games in AA-ball last season and he was 113 for 388 (.291 avg, .715 OPS) with 65 runs scored, 26 RBIs and 59 stolen bases.
