The Colorado Rockies lose Taylor Buchholz

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Injuries by chinmusic on Tuesday 16 June 2009 at 8:49 pm

The Rockies have lost righty reliever Taylor Buchholz for the rest of the 2009 season and half of the 2010 season due to Tommy John Surgery. This is a big blow to the Rockies as Buchholz really stepped up last season working in 63 games (0 starts) in which he was 6-6 with 1 save, a 2.17 ERA and a 0.95 WHIP.

Adam Eaton gets signed by the Colorado Rockies

Blogged under Arrivals & Departures, Bloglockers, Front Page, General by chinmusic on Thursday 11 June 2009 at 10:56 pm

The Rockies have signed 31-year old righty starting pitcher Adam Eaton to a minor league deal. Eaton has pitched in 8 games (all starts) this season for the Orioles and he was 2-5 with a 8.56 ERA and a 1.83 WHIP. Before his release from Baltimore Eaton allowed 56 hits (9 of which were homers) in only 41 innings pitched. Eaton has now pitched in 205 games (201 starts) in his major league career and he is 70-68 with a 4.94 ERA and a 1.44 WHIP. The Rockies shouldn’t have signed Eaton who has really been putrid the last couple of seasons.

The Colorado Rockies call up outfielder Carlos Gonzalez

Blogged under Arrivals & Departures, Bloglockers, Front Page, General, The Minors by chinmusic on Friday 5 June 2009 at 8:02 pm

The Rockies have called up 23-year old lefty swinging outfielder Carlos Gonzalez and have demoted Matt Murton to AAA. Gonzalez was a key part of the Matt Holliday trade with the Rockies over the winter. Gonzalez has played in 48 games in AAA-ball this season and he was 65 for 192 (.339 avg, 1.048 OPS) with 43 runs scored, 10 homers, 59 RBIs and 6 stolen bases. Gonzalez has also played in 85 games in his major league career and he is 73 for 302 (.242 avg, .633 OPS) with 31 runs scored, 4 homers, 26 RBIs and 4 stolen bases. Matt Murton was playing decent for the Rockies before his demotion. He played in 22 games for the Rockies this season and he was 12 for 45 (.267 avg, .771 OPS) with 7 runs scored, 1 homer, 6 RBIs and 2 stolen bases.

The Colorado Rockies designate Jason Grilli for assignment

Blogged under Arrivals & Departures, Bloglockers, Front Page, General by chinmusic on Friday 5 June 2009 at 7:59 pm

The Rockies have designated righty reliever Jason Grilli for assignment. Grilli pitched in 22 games (0 starts) for the Rockies this season and he was 0-1 with 1 save, a 6.05 ERA and a 2.17 WHIP. In two seasons with the Rockies, Grilli worked in 73 games (0 starts) in which he was 3-3 with 2 saves, a 3.68 ERA and a 1.59 WHIP. The Rockies likely won’t miss Grilli much as he pitched pretty poorly for them this season.

UPDATE: The Rockies have traded Jason Grilli to the Texas Rangers for cash considerations.
