The Rockies have acquired 34-year old righty reliever Rafael Betancourt from the Indians for 23-year old righty starting pitcher Connor Graham. Betancourt has pitched in 29 games (0 starts) this season for the Indians and he was 1-2 with 1 save, a 3.52 ERA and a 1.30 WHIP. He has now pitched 7 seasons in the majors appearing in 371 games (0 starts) in which he is 23-22 with 17 saves, a 3.25 ERA and a 1.14 WHIP. He has whiffed 409 batters in 410 career innings in the majors showing how good his stuff is. He will likely serve as Huston Street’s setup man the rest of the season. Connor Graham was the #12 prospect in the Rockies’ system coming into this season according to Baseball America. He started 16 games in A-ball this season for the Rockies and he was 7-4 with a 3.14 ERA and a 1.36 WHIP. Graham has had control issues this season walking 41 batters in 80 1/3 innings this season but he has whiffed 87 batters this year showing what kind of stuff he has. This was a high price to pay for Betancourt but the Rockies’ are going for it this season so it’s acceptable.
