The Colorado Rockies sign Miguel Olivo
The Rockies have signed 31-year old righty swinging catcher Miguel Olivo to a 1-year, $2 million dollar contract with a option for 2011 valued at $2.5 million bucks with a $500,000 dollar buyout. Olivo played in 114 games for the Royals last season and he was 97 for 390 (.249 avg, .781 OPS) with 51 runs scored, 23 homers, 65 RBIs and 5 stolen bases. Olivo has now played in 754 games in his major league career and he is 602 for 2,482 (.243 avg, .701 OPS) with 290 runs scored, 96 homers, 330 RBIs and 37 stolen bases. The Rockies signed Olivo to share time with Chris Iannetta but I’m sure he has his eyes on the starting job. I like this move for the Rockies as Olivo will likely push Iannetta to step up or sit down in 2010.
