The Colorado Rockies DFA Paul Phillips
The Rockies have designated 33-year old righty swinging catcher Paul Phillips. Phillips has played in 6 games for the Rockies this season and he was 5 of 17 (.294 avg, .663 OPS) with 4 runs scored and 1 RBI. The Rockies have recalled 27-year old righty swinging catcher Chris Iannetta from the minors. Iannetta played in 8 games for the Rockies earlier this season in which he was 4 for 30 (.133 avg, .569 OPS) with 2 runs scored, 2 homers and 2 RBIs. He didn’t mope in AAA as he earned his way back to Denver. Iannetta played in 17 games in AAA-ball this year and he was 22 of 63 (.349 avg, 1.146 OPS) with 17 runs scored, 5 homers and 21 RBIs. Phillips will accept a minor league assignment if he clears waivers.
Glad Iannetta getting another shot. Really like him and the power he can bring. Hopefully he will hit for a better average this time around.
Iannetta needs to put up some numbers as he has been slumping the last couple of years.
