The Colorado Rockies acquire Manny Delcarmen from the Red Sox

Blogged under Arrivals & Departures, Bloglockers, Front Page, General by chinmusic on Tuesday 31 August 2010 at 4:18 pm

The Rockies have acquired 28-year old righty reliever Manny Delcarmen from the Red Sox for 21-year old lefty starting pitcher Chris Balcolm-Miller. Delcarmen has pitched in 48 games (0 starts) this year for the Red Sox and he was 3-2 with a 4.70 ERA and a 1.39 WHIP. He has now pitched in 289 games (0 starts) in his six years in the majors and he is 11-6 with 3 saves, a 3.89 ERA and a 1.36 WHIP. Balcolm-Smith started 19 games in A-ball for the Rockies this year and he was 6-7 with a 3.31 ERA and a 0.98 WHIP. I think the Rockies could have probably gotten a better pitcher for a prospect like Balcolm-Smith.

The Colorado Rockies place Ian Stewart on the D.L.

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Injuries by chinmusic on Tuesday 31 August 2010 at 4:15 pm

The Rockies have placed starting 3B Ian Stewart on the 15-day disabled list with a strained rib cage. Stewart has played in 115 games for the Rockies this year and he is 98 of 371 (.264 avg, .801 OPS) with 53 runs scored, 18 homers, 60 RBIs and 5 stolen bases. The Rockies are looking as we speak to make a deal for a player to replace Stewart until he’s ready to return to action.

The Colorado Rockies sign Luis Ayala

Blogged under Arrivals & Departures, Bloglockers, Front Page, General by chinmusic on Monday 30 August 2010 at 4:45 pm

The Rockies have signed 32-year old righty reliever Luis Ayala to a minor league deal. Ayala has pitched in 33 games (0 starts) in AAA-ball this year and he is 2-9 with 4 saves, a 6.43 ERA and a 1.69 WHIP. He has pitched in 377 games in his major league career and he is 29-39 with 18 saves, a 3.67 ERA and a 1.29 WHIP. This was a very nice low risk signing for the Rockies as Ayala could help them down the stretch as he has had some success in his major league career.

Jason Hammel is consistent for the Colorado Rockies

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Throwing Well by chinmusic on Saturday 28 August 2010 at 8:48 am

27-year old righty starting pitcher Jason Hammel is a solid back end of the rotation starter for the Rockies. He has started 23 games for the Rockies this year and he is 8-7 with a 4.35 ERA and a 1.30 WHIP. He is second on the team in wins, starts and innings pitched so far this year. Hammel has now pitched in 57 games (53 starts) in his two years with the Rockies and he is 18-15 with a 4.34 ERA and a 1.35 WHIP. Not too many people out there thought much about the trade that brought him over from the Rays last season but it has really helped out the Rockies and Hammel. Hammel would be nothing more than a mop up man if he were still with the Rays.

The Colorado Rockies place Manny Corpas on the D.L.

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Injuries by chinmusic on Saturday 28 August 2010 at 8:38 am

The Rockies have placed 27-year old righty reliever Manny Corpas on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained ligament in his right elbow. Corpas has pitched in 56 games (0 starts) for the Rockies this year and he is 3-5 with 10 saves, a 4.62 ERA and a 1.41 WHIP. He will be replaced in the bullpen by 27-year old righty Samuel Deduno who has been summoned from AAA. Deduno made his major league debut last night working 1/3 of an inning, giving up 1 hit and 0 runs. He pitched in 10 games (all starts) in A+AAA-ball this year and he was 3-3 with a 3.83 ERA and a 1.30 WHIP. In six years in the minors for the Rockies, Deduno pitched in 120 games (119 starts) in which he was 40-37 with a 4.35 ERA and a 1.41 WHIP.

Ryan Spilboroghs will likely see a bump in P.T. for the Colorado Rockies

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Playing Well by chinmusic on Friday 20 August 2010 at 10:16 am

With Brad Hawpe no longer on the team, Ryan Spilboroghs could see a significant bump in playing time. Spilboroghs has played in 98 games this season for the Rockies and he is 68 of 252 (.270 avg, .792 OPS) with 31 runs scored, 9 homers, 25 RBIs and 2 stolen bases. Spilboroghs has always been a solid backup for the Rockies so it will be interesting to see how he does with more P.T. in the next month and a half.

The Colorado Rockies DFA Randy Flores

Blogged under Arrivals & Departures, Bloglockers, Front Page, General by chinmusic on Friday 20 August 2010 at 10:14 am

The Rockies have designated 35-year old lefty reliever Randy Flores for assignment. Flores pitched in 47 games (0 starts) for the Rockies this year and he was 2-0 with a 2.96 ERA and a 1.28 WHIP. He pitched in 82 games (2 starts) in three years with the Rockies and he was 2-3 with a 5.43 ERA and a 1.56 WHIP. The Rockies might be able to get something for Flores if they can find a trade partner for him.

UPDATE: (8/25/2010) - The Rockies have lost Flores on waivers to the Twins.

The Colorado Rockies release Brad Hawpe

Blogged under Arrivals & Departures, Bloglockers, Front Page, General by chinmusic on Thursday 19 August 2010 at 9:52 am

The Rockies have released 31-year old outfielder Brad Hawpe. Hawpe played in 88 games for the Rockies this year and he was 66 of 259 (.255 avg, .776 OPS) with 24 runs scored, 7 homers, 37 RBIs and 2 stolen bases. He played in 816 games in his 7 years with the Rockies and he was 749 of 2,673 (.280 avg, .866 OPS) with 372 runs scored, 118 homers, 464 RBIs and 13 stolen bases. Hawpe worked hard for the Rockies but he just didn’t seem to have it anymore.

UPDATE: The Rockies have designated Hawpe for assignment instead of releasing him outright. That gives them 10 days to trade or release him.

The Colorado Rockies place Taylor Buchholz on the D.L.

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Injuries by chinmusic on Tuesday 17 August 2010 at 9:11 pm

The Rockies have placed 28-year old righty reliever Taylor Buchholz on the 15-day disabled list with back stiffness. Buchholz has pitched in 7 games (0 starts) for the Rockies this year and he is 1-0 with a 4.50 ERA and a 1.60 WHIP. The Rockies have recalled Jhoulys Chacin who will join the starting rotation in Jeff Francis’ place. Chacin has pitched in 19 games (12 starts) for the Rockies this year and he is 5-8 with a 4.04 ERA and a 1.31 WHIP.

The Colorado Rockies place Jeff Francis on the D.L.

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Injuries by chinmusic on Monday 16 August 2010 at 12:12 pm

The Rockies have placed 29-year old lefty starting pitcher Jeff Francis on the 15-day disabled list with left shoulder soreness. Francis has started 16 games for the Rockies this year and he is 4-4 with a 4.56 ERA and a 1.27 WHIP. The Rockies will likely call up righty Jhoulys Chacin to replace Francis in the starting rotation until he’s ready to return to action. I expect that Chacin will do a solid job while Francis is getting healthy.
