The Rockies have acquired 27-year old 2B/3B Jose Lopez from the Mariners for 24-year old righty Chaz Roe. Lopez will likely move back to 2B for the Rockies to replace Clint Barmes who was dealt to the Astros. Lopez played in 150 games for the Mariners last season and he was 142 of 593 (.239 avg, .609 OPS) with 49 runs scored, 10 homers, 58 RBIs and 3 stolen bases. He has now played in 873 games in his first 7 years in the majors and he is 897 of 3,374 (.266 avg, .697 OPS) with 380 runs scored, 80 homers, 341 RBIs and 23 stolen bases. Maybe a change of scenery and a move back to his old position will spur him to rebound to his old productive self. Chaz Roe started 27 games in AAA-ball for the Rockies last season and he was 9-13 with a 5.98 ERA and a 1.67 WHIP. He pitched in 126 games (all starts) in his first six years in the minors for the Rockies and he was 42-38 with a 4.48 ERA and a 1.40 WHIP. The Rockies are taking a chance on Lopez and the price was right to do so.
