The Rockies have signed 30-year old lefty swinging 1B Mike Jacobs to a minor league deal. Jacobs played in 7 games for the Mets last season and he was 5 of 24 (.208 avg, .671 OPS) with 1 run scored, 1 homer and 2 RBIs. He also played in 120 games in AAA-ball last season and he was 128 of 469 (.273 avg, .817 OPS) with 79 runs scored, 21 homers and 91 RBIs. Jacobs has now played in 556 games in parts of six years in the majors and he is 489 of 1,930 (.253 avg, .787 OPS) with 244 runs scored, 100 homer and 310 RBIs. Jacobs won’t likely make the Rockies unless Todd Helton’s back starts to act up again but I still like this signing for the Rockies as it would be a smart move to stash him in AAA.
