The Rockies have acquired 29-year old righty swinging infielder Jesus Merchan for 33-year old switch-hitting IF/OF Alfredo Amezaga. Jesus Merchan played in 58 games for the Marlins this year in AAA-ball and he is 49 for 183 (.268 avg, .641 OPS) with 22 runs scored, 1 homer and 17 RBIs. Merchan has now played in 914 games in his first 12 years in the minors and he is 931 for 3,154 (.295 avg, .734 OPS) with 430 runs scored, 26 homers, 375 RBIs and 52 stolen bases. If Merchan gets off to a hot start in the minors for the Rockies, they might give him his first shot at the majors when rosters expand on September 1st. Alfredo Amezaga played in 20 games for the Rockies this year and he was 8 for 33 (.242 avg, .570 OPS) with 5 runs scored, 0 homers and 2 RBIs.
