Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,The Minors by chinmusic on Monday 15 August 2011 at 5:28 pm

24-year old righty swinging outfielder Kent Matthes wasn’t one of the top prospects of the Rockies coming into this season. But, he’s starting to change that this year. Matthes has played in 93 games in A-ball so far this year and he is 124 for 371 (.334 avg, 1.020 OPS) with 70 runs scored, 23 homers, 95 RBIs and 7 stolen bases. He has now played in 177 games in his first three years in the minors and he is 208 for 691 (.301 avg, .900 OPS) with 118 runs scored, 29 homers, 141 RBIs and 13 stolen bases. If Matthes keeps hitting like he is right now, the Rockies might put him on the fast track to the majors.

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Injuries by chinmusic on Saturday 6 August 2011 at 3:47 pm

24-year old righty starting pitcher Juan Nicasio is likely to miss the rest of the 2011 season after his injury last night. Nicasio was hit by and Ian Desmond line drive in the back of his neck last night. He had surgery today to repair a fractured vertebrae earlier today and there is no timetable for him to return to action, but he’s likely going to miss the rest of the 2011 season. Nicasio started 13 games this year in his first taste of the majors and he was 4-4 with a 4.14 ERA and a 1.27 WHIP. The thing that really stood out about Nicasio has been his control as he only walked 18 batters in his first 71 2/3 innings of his major league career. He has a bright future with the Rockies.
