The Rockies have designated 28-year old righty swinging catcher Matt Pagnozzi for assignment. Pagnozzi played in 7 games for the Rockies this year and he was 6 for 21 (.286 avg, .634 OPS) with 2 runs scored, 0 homers and 2 RBIs. He has now played in 28 games in his first three years in the majors and he is 20 for 63 (.317 avg, .774 OPS) with 7 runs scored, 1 homer and 12 RBIs. Pagnozzi projects as no better than a backup catcher in the majors, so the Rockies shouldn’t miss him too much.

UPDATE: (9/14/2011) – The Pirates have claimed Matt Pagnozzi off waivers from the Rockies.
