29-year old lefty reliever Joe Torres will miss the first 50 games of the 2012 season as he has failed a drug test for performance enhancing drugs. Torres pitched in 52 games (0 starts) in AA+AAA-ball for the Rockies last year and he was 3-1 with 2 saves, a 2.24 ERA and a 1.21 WHIP. Torres has now pitched in 315 games (72 starts) in his first 11 years in the minors and he is 36-35 with 5 saves, a 4.51 ERA and a 1.64 WHIP. This suspension might prevent Torres from ever getting to the majors despite pitching so well last year in the minors for the Rockies.
