The Rockies signed 33-year old righty swinging Michael Cuddyer over the winter to take over as the new starting RF. Cuddyer played in 139 games for the Twins last year and he was 150 of 529 (.284 avg, .805 OPS) with 70 runs scored, 20 homers, 70 RBIs and 11 stolen bases. He has now played in 1,139 games in his first 11 years in the majors and he is 1,106 of 4,072 (.272 avg., .794 OPS) with 606 runs scored, 141 homers, 580 RBIs and 52 stolen bases. Cuddyer had 6 assists and 4 errors in 77 games in RF for the Twins last year while showing average range.
26-year old lefty swinging Tyler Colvin will likely be Cuddyer’s top backup in 2012. Colvin played in 80 games for the Cubs last year and he was 31 of 206 (.150 avg, .509 OPS) with 17 runs scored, 6 homers and 20 RBIs. He has now played in 221 games in his first three years in the majors and he is 125 of 581 (.215 avg, .696 OPS) with 78 runs scored, 26 homers, 78 RBIs and 6 stolen bases. Colvin played in 44 games in RF for the Cubs last year and he had 2 assists and 1 error while showing off excellent range there.
Carlos Gonzalez played in 34 games in RF last year and he had 4 assists and 0 errors while showing slightly below average range. I don’t see Gonzalez playing much in RF in 2012, as he will be manning LF.
