36-year old righty swinging Ramon Hernandez and 23-year old righty swinging Wilin Rosario are really giving the Rockies a lot of thump with their bats so far this year. Hernandez has played in 27 games for the Rockies so far this year and he is 20 for 93 (.215 avg, .658 OPS) with 8 runs scored, 4 homers and 15 RBIs. Wilin Rosario has played in 25 games for the Rockies so far this year and he is 15 for 72 (.208 avg, .771 OPS) with 9 runs scored, 6 homers and 15 RBIs. The Rockies will put up with a lack of batting average (.212 combined) as long as their catchers keep hitting bombs as they have combined for 10 homers and 30 RBIs so far this year.

UPDATE: (5/25/2012) – The Rockies have placed Ramon Hernandez on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 24th due to a left hand strain. Wilin Rosario will take over the full time catcher job until Hernandez is ready to return to action. The Rockies have called up 34-year old righty swinging catcher Wil Nieves to back up Rosario. Nieves has played in 28 games in AAA-ball so far this year for the Rockies and he is 26 for 87 (.299 avg, .778 OPS) with 14 runs scored, 3 homers, 14 RBIs and 1 stolen base. Nieves last played in the majors last season with the Brewers. He has played in 282 games in his first 8 years in the majors and he is 166 for 751 (.221 avg, .557 OPS) with 55 runs scored, 5 homers, 73 RBIs and 2 stolen bases.
