The Rockies have designated 49-year old lefty starting pitcher Jamie Moyer for assignment. Moyer pitched in 10 games (all starts) for the Rockies this year and he was 2-5 with a 5.70 ERA and a 1.73 WHIP. He gave up 75 hits (11 homers) in only 53 2/3 innings this year, as he got hit really hard. Moyer has pitched in 696 games (638 starts) in his first 25 years in the majors and he is 269-209 with a 4.25 ERA and a 1.32 WHIP. This could be the end of the line for Moyer as a major league pitcher. 27-year old lefty Josh Outman will replace Moyer in the rotation. Outman has pitched in 8 games (0 starts) for the Rockies so far this year and he is 0-1 with a 9.64 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP. 29-year old righty reliever Carlos Torres has been called up to replace Moyer on the pitching staff. Torres will work out of the pen for the Rockies. He pitched in 3 games (0 starts) earlier this year for the Rockies and he was 0-0 with a 2.25 ERA and a 1.00 WHIP.

UPDATE: (6/3/2012) – The Rockies have released Jamie Moyer.
