33-year old Jeremy Guthrie really had a hard time in the Rockies’ rotation. In his 11 starts for the Rockies this year, Guthrie was 3-6 with a 7.02 ERA and a 1.83 WHIP. He gave up 85 hits (15 homers) in only 59 innings pitched as a starter for the Rockies. They demoted him to the bullpen, where he has been really effective so far. He has pitched in 2 games (0 starts) out of the pen and he is 0-0 with a 0.00 ERA and a 0.79 WHIP. Guthrie has only given up 3 hits in his first 6 1/3 innings in the pen. Guthrie has pitched in 13 games (11 starts) overall this year and he is 3-6 with a 6.34 ERA and a 1.73 WHIP. He is firmly on the trading block for the Rockies.

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,The Minors by chinmusic on Tuesday 19 June 2012 at 5:35 pm

27-year old righty swinging 1B/OF Matt McBride was essentially thought of as little more than a throw in last July in the Ubaldo Jimenez deal with the Indians, but he’s swinging a hot stick in AAA-ball so far this year. McBride has played in 53 games in AAA-ball so far this year and he is 76 for 209 (.364 avg, .963 OPS) with 33 runs scored, 5 homers and 36 RBIs. He has now played in 615 games in his first seven years in the minors and he is 669 for 2,316 (.289 avg, .823 OPS) with 352 runs scored, 74 homers, 387 RBIs and 13 stolen bases. Fowler already has a career high in homers (8) and it’s only June 17th. The Rockies have to be ecstatic with the way that Fowler has been hitting, as they have expected him to be this good.

26-year old righty reliever Adam Ottavino is making the most of the opportunity that the Rockies have given him so far this year. He has only given up 13 hits and walked 3 batters in his first 16 innings pitched this year while whiffing 19 batters, which is pretty darn impressive. Ottavino has now pitched in 20 games (3 starts) in his first two years in the majors and he is 1-2 with a 5.63 ERA and a 1.62 WHIP. It looks like a change in scenery has done Ottavino a lot of good.

The Colorado Rockies DFA Esmil Rogers

Blogged under Arrivals & Departures,Bloglockers,Front Page,General by chinmusic on Tuesday 12 June 2012 at 7:05 am

The Rockies have designated 26-year old righty reliever/starter Esmil Rogers for assignment. Rogers pitched in 23 games (0 starts) for the Rockies this year and he was 0-2 with a 8.06 ERA and a 2.10 WHIP. He has now pitched in 70 games (22 starts) in his four years with the Rockies and he is 8-11 with a 6.77 ERA and a 1.82 WHIP. Rogers has given up 243 hits and he has walked 93 batters in his first 184 2/3 innings for the Rockies. For some reason, call it a hunch, I don’t think he will make it through waivers.

UPDATE: (6/13/2012) – The Rockies have dealt Esmil Rogers to the Cleveland Indians for cash considerations.
