Blogged under Arrivals & Departures,Bloglockers,Front Page,General by chinmusic on Wednesday 1 August 2012 at 2:50 pm

The Colorado Rockies have designated 34-year old righty swinging catcher Wil Nieves for assignment. He played in 16 games for the Rockies this year and he was 14 of 47 (.298 avg, .738 OPS) with 3 runs scored, 1 homer and 5 RBIs. The Rockies probably would like to keep Nieves around if he clears waivers and is willing to accept a outright assignment to the minors, just in case they find a taker on the trade market for Ramon Hernandez.

UPDATE: (8/4/2012) – Wil Nieves has rejected an outright assignment to the minors and he has become a free agent.
