Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Injuries by chinmusic on Sunday 30 September 2012 at 8:01 am

41-year old lefty swinging 1B Jason Giambi will miss the remainder of the 2012 season due to a hernia. Giambi played in 60 games for the Rockies this year and he was 20 for 89 (.225 avg, .675 OPS) with 7 runs scored, 1 homer and 8 RBIs. Giambi played in 230 games in his first four years with the Rockies and he was 104 of 420 (.248 avg, .827 OPS) with 48 runs scored, 22 homers, 86 RBIs and 2 stolen bases. He has likely played his last game with the Rockies.

The Colorado Rockies stole Tyler Colvin from the Cubs

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Playing Well by chinmusic on Wednesday 26 September 2012 at 3:14 pm

The Rockies stole 27-year old lefty swinging 1B/OF Tyler Colvin from the Cubs in the Ian Stewart deal over the winter. Colvin has played in 129 games for the Rockies so far this year and he is 113 of 393 (.288 avg, .860 OPS) with 58 runs scored, 10 triples, 18 homers, 70 RBIs and 7 stolen bases. He has been really solid the last couple of months. Since August 1st, Colvin has played in 51 games for the Rockies in which he is 51 of 166 (.307 avg) with 26 runs scored, 5 homers, 29 RBIs and 5 stolen bases. Colvin has a bright future with the Rockies.

The Colorado Rockies have to be disappointed in Alex White and Drew Pomeranz

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Pitching BP by chinmusic on Wednesday 19 September 2012 at 4:09 pm

The Rockies thought they ripped off the Indians in the Ubaldo Jimenez deal. Jimenez has really sucked since leaving the Rockies, but the two keys to the deal for the Rockies (Alex White and Drew Pomeranz) have also stunk it up. 23-year old Drew Pomeranz was the key to the deal for the Rockies. He has pitched in 19 games (all starts) for the Rockies so far this year and he is 1-9 with a 5.06 ERA and a 1.47 WHIP. 24-year old righty Alex White has been even worse. He has pitched in 20 games (all starts) for the Rockies so far this year and he is 2-8 with a 5.15 ERA and a 1.62 WHIP. The Rockies need White and Pomeranz to turn things around in the very near future.

Wilin Rosario has been impressive this year for the Colorado Rockies

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Playing Well by chinmusic on Thursday 13 September 2012 at 8:50 am

23-year old righty swinging Wilin Rosario took advantage of Ramon Hernandez being banged up this year, as he has taken over as the Rockies’ starting catcher and that will continue into 2013 and likely beyond that. Rosario has played in 99 games for the Rockies so far this year and he is 83 of 326 (.255 avg, .820 OPS) with 57 runs scored, 24 homers, 62 RBIs and 3 stolen bases. Since August 1st, Rosario has played in 32 games in which he is 30 for 105 (.286 avg) with 23 runs scored, 8 homers and 22 RBIs. Rosario appears to have a bright future with the Rockies.

The Colorado Rockies lose catcher Ramon Hernandez for the rest of the 2012 season

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Injuries by chinmusic on Thursday 13 September 2012 at 8:47 am

The Rockies have lost 36-year old righty swinging catcher Ramon Hernandez for the rest of the 2012 season due to a ruptured hamstring. Hernandez was expected to be the starting catcher for the Rockies in 2012, but he only played in 52 games this year in which he was 40 for 184 (.217 avg, .601 OPS) with 16 runs scored, 5 homers and 28 RBIs. He has now played in 1,509 games in his first 14 years in the majors and he is 1,335 of 5,057 (.264 avg, .744 OPS) with 576 runs scored, 166 homers, 751 RBIs and 8 stolen bases. Hernandez will return in 2013 as the Rockies’ backup catcher as 23-year old Wilin Rosario has earned the starting job with his play this year.

Jhoulys Chacin has been sharp since returning to the Colorado Rockies

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Throwing Well by chinmusic on Friday 7 September 2012 at 9:05 am

24-year old righty Jhoulys Chacin is re-establishing himself as the best starting pitcher the Rockies have since coming off the D.L. He has started 3 games for the Rockies since his return and he is 2-1 with a 1.50 ERA and a 1.00 WHIP. Chacin has now pitched in 8 games (all starts) overall this year for the Rockies and he is 2-4 with a 4.85 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP. He will likely be the ace of the Rockies’ rotation in 2013 as long as he can stay healthy and keep his head on straight.
