The Rockies have high hopes for 26-year old switch-hitting CF Dexter Fowler in 2013. Fowler played in 143 games for the Rockies last year and he was 136 of 454 (.300 avg, .863 OPS) with 72 runs scored, 13 homers, 53 RBIs and 12 stolen bases. Fowler played in 131 games (116 starts) in CF last year for the Rockies and he had 4 assists and 6 errors there while showing off pretty poor range. Fowler has now played in 548 games in his first five years in the majors and he is 497 of 1,833 (.271 avg, .791 OPS) with 305 runs scored, 28 homers, 168 RBIs and 64 stolen bases. 27-year old switch-hitting Eric Young will probably be Fowler’s top backup in 2013. Young played in 98 games for the Rockies last year and he was 55 of 174 (.316 avg, .825 OPS) with 36 runs scored, 4 homers, 15 RBIs and 14 stolen bases. He played in 15 games (12 starts) in CF for the Rockies last year and he had 0 errors or assists there while showing off good range. Young has now played in 256 games in his first four years in the majors and he is 160 of 601 (.266 avg, .679 OPS) 103 runs scored, 5 homers, 34 RBIs and 62 stolen bases. 27-year old lefty swinging Tyler Colvin played in 38 games (32 starts) for the Rockies in CF last year and he had 2 assists and 3 errors there while showing off outstanding range. Colvin will likely be needed more at other positions (especially 1B) in 2013, so he’s likely to play a lot less in CF this year.
