The Colorado Rockies activate Troy Wolters off the D.L.

The Colorado Rockies have activated 24-year old lefty swinging catcher Troy Wolters off the disabled list.  Wolters has played in 31 games for the Rockies so far this year and he is 20 for 92 (.217 avg, .601 OPS) with 14 runs scored, 0 homers, 11 RBIs and 3 stolen bases.  The Rockies have sent 28-year old righty swinging Dustin Garneau to AAA.  Garneau played in 19 games for the Rockies so far this year and he was 14 of 60 (.233 avg, .665 OPS) with 6 runs scored, 1 homer and 5 RBIs.

The Colorado Rockies place Chris Rusin on the D.L.

The Colorado Rockies have placed 29-year old lefty starting pitcher Chris Rusin on the 15-day disabled list due to a strained left shoulder.  Rusin has pitched in 12 games (7 starts) for the Rockies so far this year and he is 2-4 with a 4.12 ERA and a 1.34 WHIP.  He has given up 56 hits and 17 walks while whiffing 39 batters in his first 54 2/3 innings for the Rockies so far this year.  The Rockies have called up 21-year old righty reliever Miguel Castro to replace Rusin on the pitching staff.  Castro pitched in 13 games (0 starts) earlier this year for the Rockies and he was 0-0 with a 3.75 ERA and a 1.08 WHIP.  Castro has given up 10 hits and 3 walks while whiffing 10 batters in his first 12 innings pitched this year for the Rockies.

The Colorado Rockies have called up 26-year old lefty starting pitcher Tyler Anderson to replace Jake McGee (DL) on the active roster.  Anderson pitched in 6 games (all starts) in A+AA+AAA-ball so far this year and he was 2-2 with a 2.35 ERA and a 1.17 WHIP.  He has now pitched in 65 games (all starts) in his first four years in the minors and he is 25-12 with a 2.38 ERA and a 1.10 WHIP.  Anderson has some impressive minor league numbers, so it will be interesting to see how he does in his first time in the show.

The Colorado Rockies have placed 29-year old lefty reliever Jake McGee on the 15-day disabled list due to left knee inflammation.  McGee has pitched in 24 games (0 starts) for the Rockies so far this year and he is 0-2 with 15 saves, a 4.98 ERA and a 1.57 WHIP.  The Rockies will likely use 33-year old righty reliever Jason Motte and 23-year righty Carlos Estevez to close until McGee returns to action.  Motte has pitched in 6 games (0 starts) for the Rockies so far this year and he is 0-0 with a 3.00 ERA and a 1.17 WHIP.  Estevez has pitched in 21 games (0 start) for the Rockies so far this year and he is 1-3 with a 4.66 ERA and a 1.29 WHIP.

The Colorado Rockies have activated 33-year old righty reliever Jason Motte from the D.L.  Motte pitched in 6 games (0 starts) in AAA-ball on a rehab assignment this year and he was 0-0 with a 3.18 ERA and a 1.06 WHIP.  Motte has pitched in 368 games (0 starts) in his first seven years in the majors and he is 26-14 with 60 saves, a 3.16 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP.  The Rockies are glad to have Motte back, as he was one of their big free agent additions over the winter.

The Colorado Rockies activate Jorge De La Rosa off the D.L.

The Colorado Rockies have activated 35-year old lefty starting pitcher Jorge De La Rosa off the D.L.  De La Rosa pitched in 5 games (all starts) earlier this year for the Rockies and he was 1-3 with a 10.18 ERA and a 2.07 WHIP.  He has now pitched in 187 games (181 starts) in his first 9 years with the Rockies and he is 79-55 with a 4.32 ERA and a 1.36 WHIP.  The Rockies hope that De La Rosa gets back on the right track, as he is the Rockies’ all-time leader in about everything!  To make room on the active roster for De La Rosa, the Rockies have sent 25-year old righty starting pitcher Jordan Lyles back to AAA.  Lyles has pitched in 5 games (all starts) for the Rockies so far this year and he is 1-2 with a 8.55 ERA and a 2.05 WHIP.  Lyles has pitched in 37 games (all starts) in his first three years with the Rockies and he is 10-11 with a 4.97 ERA and a 1.47 WHIP.  Lyles will get another shot with the Rockies later on this year.

The Colorado Rockies release Cody Decker

The Colorado Rockies have released 29-year old righty swinging 1B Cody Decker.  Decker played in 21 games in AAA-ball for the Rockies and Royals this year and he was 16 of 71 (.225 avg, .775 OPS) with 10 runs scored, 5 homers and 9 RBIs.  Decker played in 8 games in 2015 for the Padres in his only taste of the majors so far and he was 0 for 11 (.000 avg, .000 OPS) with 1 RBI.  This isn’t much of a loss moving forward for the Rockies.

The Colorado Rockies have sent 26-year old righty reliever Scott Oberg to AAA.  Oberg pitched in 8 games (0 starts) for the Rockies so far this year and he is 0-0 with a 4.76 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP.  He has now pitched in 72 games (0 starts) in his first two years with the Rockies and he is 3-4 with 1 save, a 5.04 ERA and a 1.52 WHIP.  Oberg could come back to the Rockies at some point in 2016.

The Colorado Rockies have called up 25-year old righty starting pitcher Jordan Lyles and 21-year old righty reliever Miguel Castro.  Lyles has pitched in 4 games (all starts) in AAA-ball for the Rockies this year and he is 1-1 with a 5.40 ERA and a 1.85 WHIP.  He also pitched in 4 games (all starts) earlier this year for the Rockies in which he was 1-1 with a 7.64 ERA and a 1.87 WHIP.  Lyles will pitch out of the pen this time around for the Rockies.  Castro pitched in 2 games (0 starts) in AAA-ball for the Rockies and he was 0-1 with a 13.50 ERA and a 2.00 WHIP.  He also pitched in 6 games (0 starts) earlier this year for the Rockies and he was 0-0 with a 1.50 ERA and a 0.67 WHIP.  Adding these two guys should give a boost to the pen, as they both have live arms.

The Colorado Rockies send Ben Paulsen to AAA

The Colorado Rockies have sent 28-year old lefty swinging 1B Ben Paulsen to AAA.  Paulsen has played in 29 games for the Rockies this year and he is 17 of 66 (.258 avg, .679 OPS) with 6 runs scored, 1 homer and 10 RBIs.  He has now played in 176 games in his first three years with the Rockies and he is 127 of 454 (.280 avg, .790 OPS) with 56 runs scored, 16 homers, 69 RBIs and 1 stolen base.  This likely means that Mark Reynolds will take over as the full time 1B, as he had been platooning with Paulsen.  Reynolds has played in 29 games for the Rockies so far this year and he is 31 of 92 (.337 avg, .881 OPS) with 16 runs scored, 2 homers and 12 RBIs.  The Rockies have activated 29-year old lefty swinging infielder Daniel Descalso off the D.L.  He played in 4 games in AAA-ball on a rehab assignment and he was 6 for 15 (.400 avg, .967 OPS) with 1 run scored and 1 RBI.  Descalso played in 101 games for the Rockies last year (his first with the team) and he was 38 of 185 (.205 avg, .607 OPS) with 22 runs scored, 5 homers, 22 RBIs and 1 stolen base.
