The Colorado Rockies have designated 28-year old righty reliever Gonzalez Germen.  Germen pitched in 40 games (0 starts) for the Rockies this year and he was 2-1 with 1 save, a 5.32 ERA and a 1.62 WHIP.  He gave up 41 hits and 25 walks while whiffing 32 batters in his 40 2/3 innings this year for the Rockies.  Germen pitched in 69 games (1 start) in his two years with the Rockies and he was 2-1 with 2 saves, a 4.66 ERA and a 1.64 WHIP.

UPDATE:  (8/16/2016) – The Rockies have outrighted Gonzalez Germen to AAA.

Wes Rogers is showing off big time speed in the minors for the Colorado Rockies

22-year old righty swinging outfielder Wes Rogers came into this season as the Colorado Rockies‘ #27 prospect according to Baseball America.  Rogers has played in 103 games in A-ball so far this year for the Rockies and he is 105 of 399 (.263 avg, .726 OPS) with 63 runs scored, 4 homers, 43 RBIs and 37 stolen bases.  He has now played in 220 games in his first three years in the minors and he is 225 of 819 (.275 avg, .754 OPS) with 138 runs scored, 10 homers, 86 RBIs and 105 stolen bases.  Rogers will add a new speed dimension to the Rockies’ if he makes it to the show some day down the road!

Carlos Estevez loses the closer gig for the Colorado Rockies

23-year old righty reliever Carlos Estevez came into this season as the Colorado Rockies‘ #17 prospect according to Baseball America.  He was doing pretty well as the closer for the Rockies until the calendar turned to August.  In his first 3 games (0 starts) in August for the Rockies, Estevez is 0-2 with a 37.80 ERA and a 4.80 WHIP.  He has given up 5 hits, 3 walks and 7 runs (all earned) while whiffing 3 batters in 1 2/3 innings so far this month!  Estevez has pitched in 44 games (0 starts) overall this year for the Rockies and he is 2-7 with 11 saves, a 5.18 ERA and a 1.30 WHIP.

Adam Ottavino is going to serve as the Colorado Rockies’ new closer

30-year old righty reliever Adam Ottavino is moving into the closer’s role for the Colorado Rockies.  He has pitched in 15 games (0 starts) for the Rockies so far this year and he is 0-0 with a 0.00 ERA and a 0.94 WHIP.  Ottavino has given up 8 hits and 3 walks while whiffing 12 batters in his first 11 2/3 innings for the Rockies so far this year.  He has now pitched in 204 games (0 starts) in his first five years with the Rockies and he is 8-8 with 4 saves, a 3.28 ERA and a 1.28 WHIP.  I think Ottavino will be a solid closer as he does not seem flustered with pitching half of his games at Coors Field.

Jorge De La Rosa is back on track for the Colorado Rockies

35-year old lefty starting pitcher Jorge De La Rosa got off to a rough start this year for the Colorado Rockies in April and May, but he has been locked in since June 1st.  He has pitched in 12 games (10 starts) since June 1st for the Rockies and he is 6-3 with a 3.17 ERA and a 1.33 WHIP.  De La Rosa has pitched in 19 games (16 starts) overall this year for the Rockies and he is 7-7 with a 5.24 ERA and a 1.57 WHIP.  He has given up 101 hits and 42 walks while whiffing 71 batters in his first 91 innings this year for the Rockies.  He has now pitched in 201 games (192 starts) in his first nine years with the Rockies and he is 85-59 with a 4.29 ERA and a 1.37 WHIP.  De La Rosa is currently the Rockies’ all-time leader in both wins (85) and strikeouts (948)!  He is also #3 in ERA (4.29), #3 in WHIP (1.37), #16 in games pitched (201), #2 in games started (192), #2 in innings pitched (1,098 1/3) and he is tied for #13 in Rockies’ history in complete games (2).  The Rockies need De La Rosa to keep up the good work moving forward if they are going to make a legit playoff run in 2016.

The Colorado Rockies activate Gerardo Parra off the D.L.

The Colorado Rockies have activated 29-year old lefty swinging outfielder Gerardo Parra off of the D.L.  Parra has played in 63 games for the Rockies so far this year and he is 64 of 243 (.263 avg, .698 OPS) with 32 runs scored, 5 homers, 27 RBIs and 6 stolen bases.  The Rockies signed Parra to a 3-year, $27.5 million dollar deal last winter to start for them along with Carlos Gonzalez and Charlie Blackmon in the outfield.  While Parra was on the D.L., the Rockies called up their #2 prospect coming into this year according to Baseball America, David Dahl.  Dahl has played in 12 games for the Rockies so far this year and he is 19 of 50 (.380 avg, 1.024 OPS) with 12 runs scored, 3 homers and 7 RBIs.  Parra might become the highest paid #4 outfielder in all of baseball.

The Colorado Rockies call up Rafael Ynoa

The Colorado Rockies have called up 28-year old switch-hitting infielder Rafael Ynoa to replace Trevor Story on the active roster.  Ynoa played in 94 games in AAA-ball for the Rockies this year and he was 102 of 384 (.266 avg, .690 OPS) with 49 runs scored, 2 homers, 27 RBIs and 5 stolen bases.  He has played in 91 games in parts of two years for the Rockies so far in his career and he is 56 of 194 (.289 avg, .695 OPS) with 19 runs scored, 0 homers, 22 RBIs and 1 stolen base.

UPDATE:  (8/7/2016) – The Rockies have sent Rafael Ynoa back to AAA.  Ynoa played in 3 games for the Rockies this time around and he was 0 for 5 (.000 avg, .000 OPS) with 2 whiffs.

The Colorado Rockies place Trevor Story on the D.L.

The Colorado Rockies have placed 23-year old righty swinging SS Trevor Story on the 15-day disabled list due to a torn UCL in his left thumb.  He is done for the season.  This is a huge blow for the surging Rockies.  Story played in 97 games in his rookie season for the Rockies and he was 101 of 372 (.272 avg, .909 OPS) with 67 runs scored, 27 homers, 72 RBIs and 8 stolen bases.  At the time of his injury, Story was leading the National League with his 27 homers.  He is also currently #5 in SLG (.567), #10 in OPS (.909), #6 in runs scored (67) and he is #5 in RBIs (72) in the National League right now.  29-year old lefty swinging Daniel Descalso and 25-year old Cristhian Adames will share SS for the Rockies the rest of the way in 2016.  Descalso has played in 50 games so far this year for the Rockies and he is 33 of 103 (.320 avg, .855 OPS) with 19 runs scored, 2 homers, 21 RBIs and 1 stolen base.  Adames has played in 73 games for the Rockies so far this year and he is 21 of 113 (.186 avg, .552 OPS) with 9 runs scored, 1 homer, 8 RBIs and 1 stolen base.

Jerry Vasto is looking sharp in the minors for the Colorado Rockies

24-year old lefty reliever Jerry Vasto is looking sharp in the minors so far in 2016 for the Colorado Rockies.  Vasto has pitched in 39 games (0 starts) in A+AA-ball for the Rockies this year and he is 3-2 with 11 saves, a 1.74 ERA and a 1.04 WHIP.  He has given up 27 hits and 16 walks while whiffing 57 batters in his first 41 1/3 innings in the minors this year…..and those are eye popping numbers!  Vasto has now pitched in 86 games (0 starts) in his first three years in the minors for the Rockies and he is 5-6 with 14 saves, a 2.41 ERA and a 1.04 WHIP.  He could be a fast riser for the Rockies.

The Colorado Rockies call up David Dahl

The Colorado Rockies have called up 22-year old lefty swinging outfielder David Dahl.  Dahl came into this season as the Rockies’ #2 prospect according to Baseball America.  Dahl played in 92 games in AA+AAA-ball for the Rockies this year and he was 110 of 350 (.314 avg) with 70 runs scored, 18 homers, 61 RBIs and 17 stolen bases.  Dahl played in 367 games in his five years in the minors for the Rockies and he was 463 of 1,494 (.310 avg, .870 OPS) with 271 runs scored, 47 homers, 205 RBIs and 74 stolen bases.  I think Dahl is here to stay, as I think the Rockies will deal one of their starting outfielders later this week.
