Jamey Carroll is awful so far this season for the Colorado Rockies

The Rockies signed Jamey Carroll to a nice contract after his good season last year for the Rockies.  But, Carroll is proving so far that he isn’t worth the money that the Rockies have given him.  In 35 games this season, Carroll is 16 for 89 (.180 avg, .507 OPS) and he’s scored 12 runs, has 3 RBIs and has stolen 2 bases.  If Carroll doesn’t start to hit soon, he will be sitting on the bench a lot this season.

The Colorado Rockies need more from Troy Tulowitzki

Troy Tulowitzki has had big problems with the bat in his hands and that better change soon if he wants to stay in the major leagues.  In 16 games this season Tulowitzki is 11 for 57 (.193 avg, .509 OPS) with 4 runs scored and 4 RBIs.  He has also whiffed 16 times already this season and that’s way to many for the style of hitter that Tulowitzki is.  Clint Barmes has been brought up by the Rockies to replace Kaz Matsui on the roster so Tulowitzki better get his act together quickly.

Chris Ianetta off to a poor start for the Colorado Rockies

Ianetta is off to a rough start in his first 8 games of the season as he’s only hitting .120 with a .418 OPS.  He’s 3 for 25 with 3 runs scored and 3 RBIs so far this season.  He’s been overmatched at the plate as he’s already whiffed 12 times this season.  Ianetta was the starting catcher going in to the season, but Yorvit Torrealba has played just as much as he has and Torrealba is playing well.  So, if Ianetta doesn’t start hitting he will likely return to AAA rather than sit on the Rockies’ bench.

The Colorado Rockies have a few players that are slumping

Troy Tulowitzki, Willy Taveras and Chris Iannetta are all having rough starts to their season.  Tulowitzki is 6 for 30 (.200 avg, 540 OPS) with 3 runs scored and 2 RBIs.  He’s also had a big problem with K’s as he already whiffed 11 times this season.  Look for Jamey Carroll to play more at shortstop if Tulowitzki continues to have problems with the bat.  Taveras is only 4 for 24 (.167 avg, .467 OPS) with 4 runs.  He also has had a whiffing problem as he has K’d 10 times already this season.  Iannetta is only 2 for 18 (.111 avg, .317 OPS) with 3 runs scored and 3 RBIs.  Iannetta has been overmatched so far this season as he already has whiffed 8 times this season.  Look for Yorvit Torrealba to catch a little more if Iannetta doesn’t start to hit a little.
