Troy Tulowitzki and Michael Cuddyer are off to fast starts for the Colorado Rockies in 2013

28-year old righty swinging SS Troy Tulowitzki and 34-year old righty swinging RF Michael Cuddyer are off to smoking hot starts with the bats in 2013 for the Rockies.  The Rockies need both of these guys to stay healthy if they are going to be a legit contender in the N.L. West.  Tulowitzki played in only 47 games for the Rockies last year and he was 52 of 181 (.287 avg, .846 OPS) with 33 runs scored, 8 homers, 27 RBIs and 2 stolen bases.  He has already played in 30 games so far this year and he is 32 for 92 (.348 avg, 1.095 OPS) with 17 runs scored, 7 homers and 28 RBIs.  He has also walked more times (15) than he has whiffed (14) so far this year, as he is locked in at the plate right now and the Rockies hope he stays hot.  Cuddyer only played in 104 games for the Rockies last year and he was 93 of 358 (.260 avg, .806 OPS) with 53 runs scored, 16 homers, 58 RBIs and 8 stolen bases.  Cuddyer has played in 31 games for the Rockies so far this year and he is 38 for 119 (.319 avg, .963 OPS) with 18 runs scored, 7 homers, 23 RBIs and 3 stolen bases.

Wilin Rosario is off to a hot start with the bat for the Colorado Rockies in 2013

24-year old righty swinging catcher Wilin Rosario enjoyed a breakout season in 2012.  He played in 117 games for the Rockies last year and he was 107 of 396 (.270 avg, .843 OPS) with 67 runs scored, 28 homers, 71 RBIs and 4 stolen bases.  Rosario is off to a fast start with the bat in 2013 for the Rockies, showing that last year was not a fluke but a glimpse of things to come.  He has played in 15 games for the Rockies so far this year and he is 16 for 53 (.302 avg, .874 OPS) with 6 runs scored, 4 homers, 13 RBIs and 3 stolen bases.  The Rockies hope that Rosario keeps up the good work with the bat.

Todd Helton is off to a good start for the Colorado Rockies in 2013

39-year old lefty swinging 1B Todd Helton looked like he was toast last year for the Rockies.  He played in 69 games for the Rockies in 2012 and he was 57 for 240 (.238 avg, .743 OPS) with 31 runs scored, 7 homers, 37 RBIs and 1 stolen base.  But this year, it has been so far so good for Helton.  He has played in 12 games for the Rockies so far this year and he is 11 for 39 (.282 avg, .769 OPS) with 4 runs scored, 1 homer and 10 RBIs.  The Rockies hope that Helton’s back holds up which could allow him to have a nice comeback year in 2013.

The Rockies are hitting .327 with a .921 OPS as a team so far in the 2013 season.  They have also scored 24 runs and have cranked 10 homers in their first four games of the 2013 season!  27-year old switch-hitting CF Dexter Fowler has played in all 4 games for the Rockies so far this year and he is 6 for 18 (.333 avg, 1.202 OPS) with 4 runs scored, 3 homers and 3 RBIs.  24-year old righty swinging catcher Wilin Rosario is also off to a red hot start for the Rockies in 2013.  He has played in 3 games for the Rockies so far this year and he is 6 for 12 (.500 avg, 1.500 OPS) with 2 runs scored, 2 homers and 3 RBIs.  28-year old righty swinging SS Troy Tulowitzki is pounding the ball so far this year, as usual.  He has played in 4 games for the Rockies so far this year and he is 6 for 16 (.375 avg, 1.234 OPS) with 3 runs scored, 2 homers and 6 RBIs.  27-year old lefty swinging outfielder Carlos Gonzalez is also pounding the ball.  He has played in 4 games for the Rockies so far this year and he is 6 for 18 (.333 avg, 1.035 OPS) with 5 runs scored, 2 homers and 3 RBIs.  The Rockies hope that this quartet keeps ripping the ball and they all have the potential to do so.

The Colorado Rockies stole Tyler Colvin from the Cubs

The Rockies stole 27-year old lefty swinging 1B/OF Tyler Colvin from the Cubs in the Ian Stewart deal over the winter. Colvin has played in 129 games for the Rockies so far this year and he is 113 of 393 (.288 avg, .860 OPS) with 58 runs scored, 10 triples, 18 homers, 70 RBIs and 7 stolen bases. He has been really solid the last couple of months. Since August 1st, Colvin has played in 51 games for the Rockies in which he is 51 of 166 (.307 avg) with 26 runs scored, 5 homers, 29 RBIs and 5 stolen bases. Colvin has a bright future with the Rockies.

23-year old righty swinging Wilin Rosario took advantage of Ramon Hernandez being banged up this year, as he has taken over as the Rockies’ starting catcher and that will continue into 2013 and likely beyond that. Rosario has played in 99 games for the Rockies so far this year and he is 83 of 326 (.255 avg, .820 OPS) with 57 runs scored, 24 homers, 62 RBIs and 3 stolen bases. Since August 1st, Rosario has played in 32 games in which he is 30 for 105 (.286 avg) with 23 runs scored, 8 homers and 22 RBIs. Rosario appears to have a bright future with the Rockies.

Carlos Gonzalez continues to put up good for the Colorado Rockies

26-year old lefty swinging outfielder Carlos Gonzalez has been ripping the ball this year for the Rockies. He has played in 105 games for the Rockies so far this year and he is 134 of 417 (.321 avg, .939 OPS) with 75 runs scored, 20 homers, 78 RBIs and 16 stolen bases. But, he has slown down a bit since July 1st. Since July 1st, Gonzalez has played in 34 games in which he is 37 of 129 (.287 avg) with 16 runs scored, 3 homers, 20 RBIs and 6 stolen bases. The Rockies aren’t worried one bit about Gonzalez as he is the best player on the team right now with Troy Tulowitzki out of action.

27-year old switch-hitting 2B/OF Eric Young is really starting to hit well for the Rockies. Since July 1st, Young has played in 31 games in which he is 22 of 60 (.350 avg) with 11 runs scored, 2 homers, 6 RBIs and 2 stolen bases. He has now played in 88 games overall this year with the Rockies and he is 40 for 134 (.299 avg, .768 OPS) with 29 runs scored, 2 homers, 9 RBIs and 12 stolen bases. With Marco Scutaro off to the Giants, Young could start seeing a lot more P.T. at 2B.

Jordan Pacheco is looking pretty decent for the Colorado Rockies

26-year old righty swinging 3B Jordan Pacheco came into this season as the Rockies’ #17 prospect according to Baseball America. He has played in 75 games for the Rockies so far this year and he is 81 of 264 (.307 avg, .739 OPS) with 27 runs scored, 1 homer, 24 RBIs and 4 stolen bases. He has now played in 96 games in his first two years with the Rockies and he is 105 of 348 (.302 avg, .726 OPS) with 32 runs scored, 3 homers, 38 RBIs and 4 stolen bases. Pacheco still needs to improve with a mitt on his hands as he has made 7 errors in 67 games at 3B this year, but most of those came early in the year.

Josh Rutledge is off to a good start for the Colorado Rockies

23-year old righty swinging SS Josh Rutledge came into this season as the Rockies’ #10 prospect according to Baseball America. He has now taken over at SS with Troy Tulowitzki out due to groin surgery. Rutledge has played in 12 games for the Rockies so far this year and he is 16 for 45 (.356 avg, .997 OPS) with 6 runs scored, 1 homer, 6 RBIs and 3 stolen bases. He played in 87 games earlier this year in AA-ball for the Rockies in which he was 109 of 356 (.306 avg, .846 OPS) with 57 runs scored, 13 homers, 35 RBIs and 14 stolen bases. Rutledge has played 2B in the minors, so he could earn a shot to start at 2B for the Rockies in 2013, if he continues to play well this year.
