Carlos Gonzalez is turning in another good season for the Colorado Rockies

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Playing Well by chinmusic on Monday 22 August 2011 at 4:45 pm

25-year old lefty swinging outfielder Carlos Gonzalez set the expectations really high for himself in 2011 after the season he had in 2010. Gonzalez played in 145 games for the Rockies last year and he was 197 for 587 (.336 avg, .974 OPS) with 111 runs scored, 34 homers, 117 RBIs and 26 stolen bases. Gonzalez would have to get super hot the rest of the season to approach the kinds of numbers he put up last year. That being said, he’s still having a very solid 2011 season. Gonzalez has played in 107 games for the Rockies so far this year and he is 115 for 401 (.287 avg, .869 OPS) with 76 runs scored, 21 homers, 76 RBIs and 16 stolen bases. The Rockies hope he finishes this year strongly.

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Playing Well by chinmusic on Monday 15 August 2011 at 6:22 pm

26-year old righty swinging shortstop Troy Tulowitzki is starting to carry the Rockies’ offense once again in 2011. In July and August, Tulowitzki is 51 for 139 (.367 avg) with 19 runs scored, 8 homers, 29 RBIs and 2 stolen bases. He is trying to will his team to make a late playoff run just like he has done before. Tulowitzki has now played in 117 games overall this year and he is 135 of 449 (.301 avg, .900 OPS) with 61 runs scored, 23 homers, 82 RBIs and 8 stolen bases. The Rockies hope that the rest of the offense follows Tulowitzki’s lead.

Dexter Fowler is playing well since coming back up with the Colorado Rockies

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Playing Well by chinmusic on Saturday 6 August 2011 at 12:00 pm

25-year old switch-hitting CF Dexter Fowler has looked good since coming back to the Rockies after a brief demotion to AAA. In his first 20 games since coming back to the Rockies, Fowler is 24 for 75 (.320 avg) with 19 runs scored, 0 homers, 8 RBIs and 5 stolen bases. Fowler has now played in 78 games so far this year and he is 76 for 290 (.262 avg, .759 OPS) with 52 runs scored, 0 homers, 26 RBIs and 7 stolen bases. Fowler appears to have gotten back in the good graces of the Rockies’ organization, so he needs to finish the 2011 season strongly to stay there.

Troy Tulowitzki is the only player on the Colorado Rockies going to the All-Star Game

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Playing Well by chinmusic on Wednesday 6 July 2011 at 9:47 am

26-year old righty swinging shortstop Troy Tulowitzki will be the only Colorado Rockie playing in the All-Star Game. He has played in 84 games for the Rockies so far this year and he is 88 for 325 (.271 avg, .834 OPS) with 44 runs scored, 17 homers, 57 RBIs and 6 stolen bases. Tulowitzki is the anchor of the Colorado Rockies and his numbers at the end of the year might look amazing this year as he has proven to be a very strong finisher the last couple of seasons.

Ty Wigginton is on fire with the bat for the Colorado Rockies

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Playing Well by chinmusic on Monday 27 June 2011 at 12:40 pm

33-year old righty swinging 3B Ty Wigginton is on fire with the bat right now. In his last four games, Wigginton is 7 for 16 (.438 avg) with 5 runs scored, 5 homers and 8 RBIs. Wigginton has now played in 59 games for the Rockies this year and he is 55 for 200 (.275 avg, .857 OPS) with 29 runs scored, 12 homers, 32 RBIs and 4 stolen bases. He has pretty much taken over at 3B and the Rockies couldn’t be happier. They hope he can keep up the good work.

Charlie Blackmon is off to a good start for the Colorado Rockies

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Playing Well by chinmusic on Saturday 18 June 2011 at 6:09 pm

24-year old lefty swinging CF Charlie Blackmon is off to an outstanding start to his major league career. He has played in 10 games for the Rockies so far this year and he is 16 for 39 (.410 avg, .846 OPS) with 5 runs scored, 0 homers, 6 RBIs and 5 stolen bases. If Blackmon keeps hitting like he is right now, the Rockies might decide to send Dexter Fowler to the minors when they activate him off the D.L. Fowler has played in 57 games for the Rockies so far this year and he is 50 for 210 (.238 avg, .688 OPS) with 33 runs scored, 0 homers, 18 RBIs and 2 stolen bases (he has been caught stealing six times).

Jason Giambi still has something left in the tank for the Colorado Rockies

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Playing Well by chinmusic on Friday 10 June 2011 at 10:05 am

40-year old lefty swinging 1B Jason Giambi still appears to have something left in the gas tank. Giambi has played in 25 games so far this year for the Rockies and he is 10 for 44 (.227 avg, .950 OPS) with 7 runs scored, 6 homers and 14 RBIs. On May 19th against the Phillies, Giambi went 3 for 5 with 3 runs scored, 3 homers and 7 RBIs! The Rockies have really benefitted from signing Giambi three years ago as he has been a real asset off the bench for them. In his three years with the Rockies, Giambi is 60 for 244 (.246 avg, .836 OPS) with 28 runs scored, 14 homers, 61 RBIs and 2 stolen bases.

Seth Smith is hitting really well for the Colorado Rockies so far this year

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Playing Well by chinmusic on Monday 30 May 2011 at 11:25 am

28-year old lefty swinging outfielder Seth Smith has been hitting well and he’s been very consistent with the stick this year. Smith has played in 43 games for the Rockies so far this year and he is 44 for 145 (.303 avg, .902 OPS) with 25 runs scored, 5 homers, 22 RBIs and 3 stolen bases. It’s too bad that Smith usually struggles against lefty pitchers because I would like to see what kind of numbers he could put up with 500 ABs in a year.

Todd Helton is playing well for the Colorado Rockies

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Playing Well by chinmusic on Tuesday 17 May 2011 at 9:07 am

37-year old lefty swinging 1B Todd Helton is playing well for the Colorado Rockies so far this year. Last season, Helton played in only 118 games in which he was 102 for 398 (.256 avg, .729 OPS) with 48 runs scored, 8 homers and 37 RBIs. Many thought Helton was near the end of he line, even the Rockies did as they signed Ty Wigginton last winter, just in case. Helton has played in 35 games for the Rockies so far this year and he is 39 for 121 (.322 avg, .916 OPS) with 17 runs scored, 9 doubles, 6 homers and 19 RBIs. The Rockies hope that Helton’s back holds up because they need his bat.

Jonathan Herrera is making the most of his P.T. with the Colorado Rockies

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Playing Well by chinmusic on Tuesday 3 May 2011 at 6:19 pm

With Ian Stewart and Jose Lopez off to very slow starts, 26-year old switch-hitting Jonathan Herrera has gotten a lot of P.T. at 2B and he’s making the most of it. Herrera has played in 21 games for the Rockies so far this year and he is 21 for 70 (.300 avg, .830 OPS) with 10 runs scored, 1 homer, 5 RBIs and 4 stolen bases. Herrera is also showing an outstanding eye at the plate as he has walked 16 times already this year while whiffing 8 times. I have a feeling that Herrera might just get to keep his starting job as long as his bat doesn’t slow down.
