27-year old switch-hitting 2B/OF Eric Young is really starting to hit well for the Rockies. Since July 1st, Young has played in 31 games in which he is 22 of 60 (.350 avg) with 11 runs scored, 2 homers, 6 RBIs and 2 stolen bases. He has now played in 88 games overall this year with the Rockies and he is 40 for 134 (.299 avg, .768 OPS) with 29 runs scored, 2 homers, 9 RBIs and 12 stolen bases. With Marco Scutaro off to the Giants, Young could start seeing a lot more P.T. at 2B.

Jordan Pacheco is looking pretty decent for the Colorado Rockies

26-year old righty swinging 3B Jordan Pacheco came into this season as the Rockies’ #17 prospect according to Baseball America. He has played in 75 games for the Rockies so far this year and he is 81 of 264 (.307 avg, .739 OPS) with 27 runs scored, 1 homer, 24 RBIs and 4 stolen bases. He has now played in 96 games in his first two years with the Rockies and he is 105 of 348 (.302 avg, .726 OPS) with 32 runs scored, 3 homers, 38 RBIs and 4 stolen bases. Pacheco still needs to improve with a mitt on his hands as he has made 7 errors in 67 games at 3B this year, but most of those came early in the year.

Josh Rutledge is off to a good start for the Colorado Rockies

23-year old righty swinging SS Josh Rutledge came into this season as the Rockies’ #10 prospect according to Baseball America. He has now taken over at SS with Troy Tulowitzki out due to groin surgery. Rutledge has played in 12 games for the Rockies so far this year and he is 16 for 45 (.356 avg, .997 OPS) with 6 runs scored, 1 homer, 6 RBIs and 3 stolen bases. He played in 87 games earlier this year in AA-ball for the Rockies in which he was 109 of 356 (.306 avg, .846 OPS) with 57 runs scored, 13 homers, 35 RBIs and 14 stolen bases. Rutledge has played 2B in the minors, so he could earn a shot to start at 2B for the Rockies in 2013, if he continues to play well this year.

26-year old lefty swinging 1B/OF Tyler Colvin has been killing the baseball so far in July. He has played in 5 games so far this month for the Rockies and he is 8 for 23 (.348 avg, 1.462 OPS) with 5 runs scored, 5 homers and 10 RBIs. Colvin has now played in 63 games for the Rockies this year and he is 56 for 180 (.311 avg, .983 OPS) with 26 runs scored, 13 homers, 40 RBIs and 1 stolen base. The Rockies are going to have to look for more ways to get Colvin in the lineup and that will likely start to cost Todd Helton P.T. in the second half of the season.

Dexter Fowler has been really solid for the Colorado Rockies this year

26-year old switch-hitting CF Dexter Fowler is hitting the ball well so far this year. He has played in 60 games for the Rockies so far this year and he is 47 for 176 (.267 avg, .880 OPS) with 34 runs scored, 8 homers, 30 RBIs and 6 stolen bases. Fowler already has a career high in homers (8) and it’s only June 17th. The Rockies have to be ecstatic with the way that Fowler has been hitting, as they have expected him to be this good.

Carlos Gonzalez had an amazing May for the Colorado Rockies

26-year old lefty swinging outfielder Carlos Gonzalez had a huge month in June for the Rockies. Gonzalez played in 28 games for the Rockies in May and he was 40 for 114 (.351 avg, 1.145 OPS) with 26 runs scored, 11 doubles, 10 homers, 26 RBIs and 4 stolen bases. He has now played in 50 games for the Rockies and he is 67 for 202 (.332 avg, 1.031 OPS) with a major league leading 45 runs scored, 14 homers, 45 RBIs and 8 stolen bases. The Rockies are really going to be leaning on Gonzalez with Troy Tulowitzki now on the D.L.

36-year old righty swinging Ramon Hernandez and 23-year old righty swinging Wilin Rosario are really giving the Rockies a lot of thump with their bats so far this year. Hernandez has played in 27 games for the Rockies so far this year and he is 20 for 93 (.215 avg, .658 OPS) with 8 runs scored, 4 homers and 15 RBIs. Wilin Rosario has played in 25 games for the Rockies so far this year and he is 15 for 72 (.208 avg, .771 OPS) with 9 runs scored, 6 homers and 15 RBIs. The Rockies will put up with a lack of batting average (.212 combined) as long as their catchers keep hitting bombs as they have combined for 10 homers and 30 RBIs so far this year.

UPDATE: (5/25/2012) – The Rockies have placed Ramon Hernandez on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 24th due to a left hand strain. Wilin Rosario will take over the full time catcher job until Hernandez is ready to return to action. The Rockies have called up 34-year old righty swinging catcher Wil Nieves to back up Rosario. Nieves has played in 28 games in AAA-ball so far this year for the Rockies and he is 26 for 87 (.299 avg, .778 OPS) with 14 runs scored, 3 homers, 14 RBIs and 1 stolen base. Nieves last played in the majors last season with the Brewers. He has played in 282 games in his first 8 years in the majors and he is 166 for 751 (.221 avg, .557 OPS) with 55 runs scored, 5 homers, 73 RBIs and 2 stolen bases.

26-year old lefty swinging outfielder Carlos Gonzalez is ripping the ball for the Rockies. He has played in 22 games for the Rockies so far this year and he is 26 for 89 (.292 avg, .966 OPS) with 22 runs scored, 7 homers, 23 RBIs and 4 stolen bases. Gonzalez has now played in 383 games in his first four years with the Rockies and he is 444 for 1,435 (.309 avg, .926 OPS) with 278 runs scored, 80 homers, 261 RBIs and 66 stolen bases. Gonzalez has been hitting well since he came to the A’s on November 10th, 2008 along with closer Huston Street and lefty starting pitcher Greg Smith for outfielder Matt Holliday.

26-year old switch-hitting CF Dexter Fowler has been a tease to this point in his career for the Rockies. In his first four years, Fowler has career highs of 84 runs scored, 6 homers and 45 RBIs. But, he is off to a good start for the Rockies with the bat so far this year. He has played in 21 games for the Rockies so far this year and he is 17 of 68 (.250 avg, .805 OPS) with 13 runs scored, 4 homers, 10 RBIs and 2 stolen bases. The Rockies hope that Fowler keeps up the good work.

Tyler Colvin is looking good for the Colorado Rockies so far this year

26-year old lefty swinging outfielder Tyler Colvin played in 80 games for the Cubs last year and he was 31 of 206 (.150 avg, .509 OPS) with 17 runs scored, 6 homers and 20 RBIs. The Rockies thought that Colvin was a much better player than he showed last year, so they dealt for him over the winter. So far, so good for Colvin in 2012. He has played in 10 games for the Rockies so far this year and he is 9 for 26 (.346 avg, .947 OPS) with 3 runs scored, 1 homer and 5 RBIs. The Rockies hope he keeps up the good work.
