The Colorado Rockies send Jason Gurka to AAA

The Colorado Rockies have sent 28-year old lefty reliever Jason Gurka to AAA.  Gurka pitched in 6 games (0 starts) for the Rockies this year and he was 0-0 with a 9.31 ERA and a 1.86 WHIP.  He has now pitched in 15 games (0 starts) in his first two years with the Rockies and he is 0-0 with a 9.35 ERA and a 2.08 WHIP.  I don’t think Gurka will get another chance with the Rockies for a while, as he has been downright awful for them so far in his career.

The Colorado Rockies place Miguel Castro on the D.L.

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Injuries,The Minors by joelapinski on Friday 22 April 2016 at 6:15 pm

The Colorado Rockies have placed 21-year old righty reliever Miguel Castro on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 18th due to right shoulder inflammation.  Castro has pitched in 6 games (0 starts) for the Rockies so far this year and he is 0-0 with a 1.50 ERA and a 0.67 WHIP.  He has only given up 2 hits and 2 walks while whiffing 8 batters in his first six innings this year.  This is really going to hurt the Rockies’ bullpen, as Castro is off to a rock solid start in 2016.  The Rockies have activated 24-year old righty starting pitcher Jon Gray to replace Castro on the roster and he will start tonight against the Dodgers at Coors Field.  Gray pitched in 2 games (both starts) on a rehab assignment in A-ball this year and he was 0-1 with a 2.08 ERA and a 1.27 WHIP.  Gray pitched in 9 games (all starts) for the Rockies last year in his first taste of the majors and he was 0-2 with a 5.53 ERA and a 1.62 WHIP.  The Rockies have high hopes for Gray.

Raimel Tapia is a player on the rise in the Colorado Rockies’ system

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,The Minors by joelapinski on Thursday 7 April 2016 at 6:44 am

22-year old lefty swinging outfielder Raimel Tapia comes into this season as the Colorado Rockies‘ #10 prospect according to Baseball America.  He played in 131 games in A-ball last year and he was 166 of 544 (.305 avg, .800 OPS) with 74 runs scored, 12 homers, 71 RBIs and 26 stolen bases.  Tapia has now played in 449 games in his first five years in the minors and he is 555 of 1,768 (.314 avg, .806 OPS) with 280 runs scored, 29 homers, 260 RBIs and 97 stolen bases.  Look for Tapia to keep climbing in the system for the Rockies’ this year.

The Colorado Rockies send two pitchers to the minors

The Colorado Rockies have sent 26-year old righty reliever Scott Oberg and 28-year old righty reliever Gonzalez Germen to AAA to start the 2016 season.  Oberg pitched in 64 games (0 starts) for the Rockies last year and he was 3-4 with 1 save, a 5.09 ERA and a 1.53 WHIP.  Germen played in 35 games (1 start) for the Rockies and Cubs last year in which he was 0-0 with 1 save, a 4.42 ERA and a 1.73 WHIP.  He has now pitched in 89 games (1 start) in his first three years in the majors and he is 1-2 with 2 saves, a 4.35 ERA and a 1.54 WHIP.  I could see both of these guys pitching for the Rockies at some point in 2016, as long as they pitch well in AAA-ball first.
