The Colorado Rockies activate Jorge De La Rosa off the D.L.

The Colorado Rockies have activated 35-year old lefty starting pitcher Jorge De La Rosa off the D.L.  De La Rosa pitched in 5 games (all starts) earlier this year for the Rockies and he was 1-3 with a 10.18 ERA and a 2.07 WHIP.  He has now pitched in 187 games (181 starts) in his first 9 years with the Rockies and he is 79-55 with a 4.32 ERA and a 1.36 WHIP.  The Rockies hope that De La Rosa gets back on the right track, as he is the Rockies’ all-time leader in about everything!  To make room on the active roster for De La Rosa, the Rockies have sent 25-year old righty starting pitcher Jordan Lyles back to AAA.  Lyles has pitched in 5 games (all starts) for the Rockies so far this year and he is 1-2 with a 8.55 ERA and a 2.05 WHIP.  Lyles has pitched in 37 games (all starts) in his first three years with the Rockies and he is 10-11 with a 4.97 ERA and a 1.47 WHIP.  Lyles will get another shot with the Rockies later on this year.

The Colorado Rockies release Cody Decker

The Colorado Rockies have released 29-year old righty swinging 1B Cody Decker.  Decker played in 21 games in AAA-ball for the Rockies and Royals this year and he was 16 of 71 (.225 avg, .775 OPS) with 10 runs scored, 5 homers and 9 RBIs.  Decker played in 8 games in 2015 for the Padres in his only taste of the majors so far and he was 0 for 11 (.000 avg, .000 OPS) with 1 RBI.  This isn’t much of a loss moving forward for the Rockies.

The Colorado Rockies call up two pitchers

The Colorado Rockies have called up 25-year old righty starting pitcher Jordan Lyles and 21-year old righty reliever Miguel Castro.  Lyles has pitched in 4 games (all starts) in AAA-ball for the Rockies this year and he is 1-1 with a 5.40 ERA and a 1.85 WHIP.  He also pitched in 4 games (all starts) earlier this year for the Rockies in which he was 1-1 with a 7.64 ERA and a 1.87 WHIP.  Lyles will pitch out of the pen this time around for the Rockies.  Castro pitched in 2 games (0 starts) in AAA-ball for the Rockies and he was 0-1 with a 13.50 ERA and a 2.00 WHIP.  He also pitched in 6 games (0 starts) earlier this year for the Rockies and he was 0-0 with a 1.50 ERA and a 0.67 WHIP.  Adding these two guys should give a boost to the pen, as they both have live arms.

Harrison Musgrove is looking good in the minors for the Colorado Rockies

24-year old lefty starting pitcher Harrison Musgrove is looking sharp in the minors for the Colorado Rockies.  He has pitched in 6 games (all starts) in AA-ball for the Rockies so far this year and he is 5-1 with a 1.79 ERA and a 0.69 WHIP.  He has only given up 20 hits and 8 walks while whiffing 30 batters in his first 40 1/3 innings this year.  Musgrove has now pitched in 46 games (44 starts) in his first three years in the minors and he is 20-10 with a 3.28 ERA and a 1.15 WHIP.  He could get to the show later this year if he keeps pitching well…..as the Rockies always need pitching.

The Colorado Rockies send Ben Paulsen to AAA

The Colorado Rockies have sent 28-year old lefty swinging 1B Ben Paulsen to AAA.  Paulsen has played in 29 games for the Rockies this year and he is 17 of 66 (.258 avg, .679 OPS) with 6 runs scored, 1 homer and 10 RBIs.  He has now played in 176 games in his first three years with the Rockies and he is 127 of 454 (.280 avg, .790 OPS) with 56 runs scored, 16 homers, 69 RBIs and 1 stolen base.  This likely means that Mark Reynolds will take over as the full time 1B, as he had been platooning with Paulsen.  Reynolds has played in 29 games for the Rockies so far this year and he is 31 of 92 (.337 avg, .881 OPS) with 16 runs scored, 2 homers and 12 RBIs.  The Rockies have activated 29-year old lefty swinging infielder Daniel Descalso off the D.L.  He played in 4 games in AAA-ball on a rehab assignment and he was 6 for 15 (.400 avg, .967 OPS) with 1 run scored and 1 RBI.  Descalso played in 101 games for the Rockies last year (his first with the team) and he was 38 of 185 (.205 avg, .607 OPS) with 22 runs scored, 5 homers, 22 RBIs and 1 stolen base.

The Colorado Rockies have placed 32-year old righty swinging catcher Nick Hundley on the 15-day disabled list due to a strained left oblique.  Hundley has played in 13 games for the Rockies so far this year and he is 12 of 44 (.273 avg, .930 OPS) with 3 runs scored, 2 homers and 7 RBIs.  He has also walked more times (10) than he has whiffed (9) so far this year.  The Rockies have called up 28-year old righty swinging Dustin Garneau to replace Hundley on the active roster.  Garneau played in 3 games for the Rockies earlier this year and he was 4 for 10 (.400 avg, 1.200 OPS) with 1 run scored, 0 homers and 1 RBI.  He has now played in 25 games in his first two years with the Rockies and he is 15 of 80 (.188 avg, .599 OPS) with 7 runs scored, 2 homers and 9 RBIs.  Garneau will share time behind the plate with 23-year old lefty swinging Tony Wolters until Hundley is ready to return to action.  Wolters has played in 17 games for the Rockies so far this year and he is 7 for 44 (.159 avg, .493 OPS) with 6 runs scored, 0 homers, 4 RBIs and 3 stolen bases.  The Rockies are going to miss Hundley.

Jeff Hoffman is looking really good in AAA-ball for the Colorado Rockies

23-year old righty starting pitcher Jeff Hoffman came into this season as the Colorado Rockies‘ #4 prospect according to Baseball America.  He was part of the return the Rockies got from the Blue Jays in the Troy Tulowitzki deal last July.  Hoffman has pitched in 5 games (all starts) in AAA-ball for the Rockies so far this year and he is 2-0 with a 1.52 ERA and a 1.05 WHIP.  He has only given up 22 hits and 9 walks while whiffing 25 batters in his first 29 2/3 innings so far this year, which are pretty impressive numbers.  Hoffman has now pitched in 25 games (all starts) in his first two years in the minors and he is 7-5 with a 2.90 ERA and a 1.15 WHIP.  Hoffman could be the next pitcher the Rockies call up when they need a starter if he keeps pitching well in AAA.

The Colorado Rockies activate Charlie Blackmon from the D.L.

The Colorado Rockies have activated 29-year old lefty swinging CF Charlie Blackmon from the D.L.  Blackmon played in 8 games earlier this year for the Rockies and he was 5 for 27 (.185 avg, .575 OPS) with 6 runs scored, 0 homers, 3 RBIs and 1 stolen base.  To make room on the roster for Blackmon, the Rockies have sent 29-year old righty swinging outfielder Brandon Barnes to AAA.  Barnes has played in 17 games for the Rockies so far this year and he is 6 for 31 (.194 avg, .565 OPS) with 1 run scored, 0 homers and 4 RBIs.

The Colorado Rockies have placed 35-year old lefty starting pitcher Jorge De La Rosa on the 15-day disabled list due to a strained left groin.  De La Rosa has pitched in 5 games (all starts) for the Rockies so far this year and he is 1-3 with a 10.18 ERA and a 2.07 WHIP.  He has given up 30 hits (7 homers) and 12 walks while whiffing 28 batters in his first 20 1/3 innings this year, as he was getting hit really hard this year.  The Rockies have recalled 25-year old righty starter/reliever Eddie Butler to replace De La Rosa on the pitching staff.  Butler pitched in relief last night for the Rockies in his 2016 debut, as he worked 2 1/3 innings allowing 2 hits, 1 run (it was earned) and he didn’t walk any batters while whiffing 4 of them.  Butler pitched in 19 games (all starts) in his first two years with the Rockies and he is 4-11 with a 6.04 ERA and a 1.83 WHIP.

The Colorado Rockies have sent 25-year old righty starting pitcher Jordan Lyles to AAA.  Lyles pitched in 4 games (all starts) for the Rockies so far this year and he is 1-1 with a 7.64 ERA and a 1.87 WHIP.  He has now pitched in 36 games (all starts) in his first three years with the Rockies and he is 10-10 with a 4.84 ERA and a 1.44 WHIP.  29-year old lefty Chris Rusin will replace Lyles in the starting rotation.  Rusin has pitched in 4 games (0 starts) for the Rockies so far this year and he is 1-0 with a 2.45 ERA and a 0.73 WHIP.  Rusin has now pitched in 28 games (22 starts) in his first two years with the Rockies and he is 7-10 with a 5.11 ERA and a 1.54 WHIP.  The Rockies have called up 26-year old righty reliever Scott Oberg to replace Lyles on the roster.  Oberg pitched in 6 games (0 starts) in AAA-ball for the Rockies this year and he was 0-0 with 2 saves, a 4.70 ERA and a 1.44 WHIP.  Oberg pitched in 64 games (0 starts) for the Rockies last year in his first taste of the majors and he was 3-4 with 1 save, a 5.09 ERA and a 1.53 WHIP.
