Jordan Patterson is looking good in the minors for the Colorado Rockies

24-year old lefty swinging 1B/OF Jordan Patterson came into this season as the Colorado Rockies‘ #20 prospect according to Baseball America.  He has played in 70 games in AAA-ball for the Rockies so far this year and he is 75 of 237 (.316 avg, .888 OPS) with 41 runs scored, 4 homers, 34 RBIs and 7 stolen bases.  Patterson has now played in 380 games in his first four years in the minors and he is 406 of 1,384 (.293 avg, .863 OPS) with 242 runs scored, 45 homers, 212 RBIs and 60 stolen bases.  Patterson could get his first shot with the show later this year for the Rockies.

The Colorado Rockies activate Tyler Chatwood off the D.L.

The Colorado Rockies have activated 26-year old righty starting pitcher Tyler Chatwood off the D.L.  Chatwood has pitched in 14 games (all starts) for the Rockies so far this year and he is 8-4 with a 3.15 ERA and a 1.23 WHIP.  He has given up 76 hits and 29 walks while whiffing 53 batters in his first 85 2/3 innings so far this year.  To make room on the pitching staff for Chatwood, the Rockies have sent 25-year old righty starter/reliever Eddie Butler to AAA.  Butler has pitched in 12 games (9 starts) so far this year for the Rockies and he is 2-5 with a 6.96 ERA and a 1.58 WHIP.  He has given up 71 hits (12 homers) and 15 walks while whiffing 36 batters in his first 54 1/3 innings for the Rockies.  Butler deserved his demotion as he has been getting hit really hard so far this year.

The Colorado Rockies have placed 29-year old righty reliever Justin Miller on the 15-day disabled list due to oblique tightness.  Miller has pitched in 31 games (0 starts) for the Rockies so far this year and he is 1-1 with a 5.35 ERA and a 1.64 WHIP.  The Rockies have activated 30-year old righty reliever Adam Ottavino off the D.L. to replace Miller on the active roster.  He pitched in 10 games in A+AAA-ball on a rehab assignment for the Rockies this year and he was 0-1 with 1 save, a 5.40 ERA and a 1.56 WHIP.  Ottavino has pitched in 189 games (0 starts) in his first four years with the Rockies and he is 8-8 with 4 saves, a 3.44 ERA and a 1.30 WHIP.

The Colorado Rockies call up Yohan Flande

The Colorado Rockies have called up 30-year old lefty reliever/starter Yohan Flande.  Flande has pitched in 18 games (1 start) in AAA-ball for the Rockies this year and he was 3-3 with a 4.25 ERA and a 1.56 WHIP.  Flande has pitched in 35 games (20 starts) in his first two years with the Rockies and he is 3-9 with a 4.95 ERA and a 1.33 WHIP.  The Rockies have sent 21-year old righty reliever Miguel Castro to AAA to make room on the roster for Flande.  Castro has pitched in 19 games (0 starts) for the Rockies so far this year and he is 0-0 with a 6.14 ERA and a 1.57 WHIP.  He could get back to Colorado at some point later this year, if he pitches well in AAA first.

The Colorado Rockies have called up 25-year old righty starting pitcher Jordan Lyles.  Lyles will pitch out of the bullpen this time around for the Rockies.  Lyles pitched in 5 games (all starts) earlier this year for the Rockies and he was 1-2 with a 8.55 ERA and a 2.05 WHIP.  He has now pitched in 37 games (all starts) in his first three years with the Rockies and he is 10-11 with a 4.97 ERA and a 1.47 WHIP.  To make room for Lyles on the pitching staff, the Rockies have sent 26-year old righty reliever Scott Oberg to AAA.  Oberg has pitched in 9 games (0 starts) for the Rockies so far this year and he is 0-0 with a 4.05 ERA and a 1.43 WHIP.  Oberg has now pitched in 73 games (0 starts) in his first two years with the Rockies and he is 3-4 with 1 save, a 4.90 ERA and a 1.51 WHIP.  Oberg will likely be back at some point in 2016 for the Rockies.

It’s decision time for the Colorado Rockies with Jose Reyes

33-year old switch-hitting SS Jose Reyes “rehab” assignment ends today, so the Colorado Rockies need to either call him up, trade him or designate him for assignment.  Reyes played in 9 games in AAA-ball for the Rockies this year and he is 10 for 33 (.303 avg, .910 OPS) with 7 runs scored, 2 homers, 2 RBIs and 3 stolen bases.  He played in 47 games for the Rockies after coming over from the Blue Jays in the Troy Tulowitzki deal and he was 50 for 193 (.259 avg, .659 OPS) with 21 runs scored, 3 homers, 19 RBIs and 8 stolen bases.  Trevor Story has established himself as the Rockies’ starting SS while Jose Reyes was suspended.  It will be interesting to see what the Rockies decide to do with Reyes.

The Colorado Rockies activate Troy Wolters off the D.L.

The Colorado Rockies have activated 24-year old lefty swinging catcher Troy Wolters off the disabled list.  Wolters has played in 31 games for the Rockies so far this year and he is 20 for 92 (.217 avg, .601 OPS) with 14 runs scored, 0 homers, 11 RBIs and 3 stolen bases.  The Rockies have sent 28-year old righty swinging Dustin Garneau to AAA.  Garneau played in 19 games for the Rockies so far this year and he was 14 of 60 (.233 avg, .665 OPS) with 6 runs scored, 1 homer and 5 RBIs.

The Colorado Rockies have called up 26-year old lefty starting pitcher Tyler Anderson to replace Jake McGee (DL) on the active roster.  Anderson pitched in 6 games (all starts) in A+AA+AAA-ball so far this year and he was 2-2 with a 2.35 ERA and a 1.17 WHIP.  He has now pitched in 65 games (all starts) in his first four years in the minors and he is 25-12 with a 2.38 ERA and a 1.10 WHIP.  Anderson has some impressive minor league numbers, so it will be interesting to see how he does in his first time in the show.

The Colorado Rockies have placed 29-year old lefty reliever Jake McGee on the 15-day disabled list due to left knee inflammation.  McGee has pitched in 24 games (0 starts) for the Rockies so far this year and he is 0-2 with 15 saves, a 4.98 ERA and a 1.57 WHIP.  The Rockies will likely use 33-year old righty reliever Jason Motte and 23-year righty Carlos Estevez to close until McGee returns to action.  Motte has pitched in 6 games (0 starts) for the Rockies so far this year and he is 0-0 with a 3.00 ERA and a 1.17 WHIP.  Estevez has pitched in 21 games (0 start) for the Rockies so far this year and he is 1-3 with a 4.66 ERA and a 1.29 WHIP.

Brendan Rodgers is a solid looking prospect for the Colorado Rockies

19-year old righty swinging SS Brendan Rodgers came into this season as the Colorado Rockies‘ #3 prospect according to Baseball America.  Rodgers was the #3 overall pick (1st round) of the 2015 Amateur Draft.  Rodgers has played in 42 games in A-ball so far this year and he is 50 for 173 (.289 avg, .856 OPS) with 36 runs scored, 8 homers, 34 RBIs and 2 stolen bases.  Rodgers has now played in 79 games in his first two years in the minors and he is 89 of 316 (.282 avg, .812 OPS) with 58 runs scored, 11 homers, 54 RBIs and 6 stolen bases.  Rodgers might have to change positions down the road, as Trevor Story in looking like the real deal for the Rockies, but they will cross that bridge when they get to it.
