24-year old lefty starting pitcher Harrison Musgrove is looking sharp in the minors for the Colorado Rockies.  He has pitched in 6 games (all starts) in AA-ball for the Rockies so far this year and he is 5-1 with a 1.79 ERA and a 0.69 WHIP.  He has only given up 20 hits and 8 walks while whiffing 30 batters in his first 40 1/3 innings this year.  Musgrove has now pitched in 46 games (44 starts) in his first three years in the minors and he is 20-10 with a 3.28 ERA and a 1.15 WHIP.  He could get to the show later this year if he keeps pitching well…..as the Rockies always need pitching.

The Colorado Rockies have sent 28-year old lefty swinging 1B Ben Paulsen to AAA.  Paulsen has played in 29 games for the Rockies this year and he is 17 of 66 (.258 avg, .679 OPS) with 6 runs scored, 1 homer and 10 RBIs.  He has now played in 176 games in his first three years with the Rockies and he is 127 of 454 (.280 avg, .790 OPS) with 56 runs scored, 16 homers, 69 RBIs and 1 stolen base.  This likely means that Mark Reynolds will take over as the full time 1B, as he had been platooning with Paulsen.  Reynolds has played in 29 games for the Rockies so far this year and he is 31 of 92 (.337 avg, .881 OPS) with 16 runs scored, 2 homers and 12 RBIs.  The Rockies have activated 29-year old lefty swinging infielder Daniel Descalso off the D.L.  He played in 4 games in AAA-ball on a rehab assignment and he was 6 for 15 (.400 avg, .967 OPS) with 1 run scored and 1 RBI.  Descalso played in 101 games for the Rockies last year (his first with the team) and he was 38 of 185 (.205 avg, .607 OPS) with 22 runs scored, 5 homers, 22 RBIs and 1 stolen base.

23-year old righty starting pitcher Jeff Hoffman came into this season as the Colorado Rockies‘ #4 prospect according to Baseball America.  He was part of the return the Rockies got from the Blue Jays in the Troy Tulowitzki deal last July.  Hoffman has pitched in 5 games (all starts) in AAA-ball for the Rockies so far this year and he is 2-0 with a 1.52 ERA and a 1.05 WHIP.  He has only given up 22 hits and 9 walks while whiffing 25 batters in his first 29 2/3 innings so far this year, which are pretty impressive numbers.  Hoffman has now pitched in 25 games (all starts) in his first two years in the minors and he is 7-5 with a 2.90 ERA and a 1.15 WHIP.  Hoffman could be the next pitcher the Rockies call up when they need a starter if he keeps pitching well in AAA.

The Colorado Rockies send Jason Gurka to AAA

Blogged under Arrivals & Departures,Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Pitching BP,The Minors by joelapinski on Friday 22 April 2016 at 6:23 pm

The Colorado Rockies have sent 28-year old lefty reliever Jason Gurka to AAA.  Gurka pitched in 6 games (0 starts) for the Rockies this year and he was 0-0 with a 9.31 ERA and a 1.86 WHIP.  He has now pitched in 15 games (0 starts) in his first two years with the Rockies and he is 0-0 with a 9.35 ERA and a 2.08 WHIP.  I don’t think Gurka will get another chance with the Rockies for a while, as he has been downright awful for them so far in his career.
