Tyler Chatwood is pitching well for the Colorado Rockies

23-year old righty starting pitcher Tyler Chatwood has tightened up his control and success has followed him so far in 2013.  Chatwood has pitched in 6 games (all starts) for the Rockies so far this year and he is 3-1 with a 2.14 ERA and a 1.28 WHIP.  Chatwood has given up 33 hits and 10 walks while whiffing 30 batters in his first 33 2/3 innings so far this year.  Chatwood has now pitched in 25 games (18 starts) in his first two years with the Rockies and he is 8-7 with 1 save, a 4.30 ERA and a 1.53 WHIP.  The Rockies hope that Chatwood keeps up the good work moving forward.

Edgmer Escalona is looking good for the Colorado Rockies so far in 2013

26-year old righty reliever Edmer Escalona has been outstanding out of the pen for the Rockies so far in 2013.  He has pitched in 13 games (0 starts) for the Rockies so far this year and he is 1-1 with a 1.54 ERA and a 0.86 WHIP.  He has given up only 16 hits and 4 walks while whiffing 20 batters in his first 23 1/3 innings this year, as he has been impressive.  Escalona has now pitched in 54 games (0 starts) in his first four years in the majors and he is 1-2 with a 2.91 ERA and a 1.06 WHIP.  It’s looking like Escalona will have a real shot of having his first full season in the majors in 2013.

Rafael Betancourt has been outstanding for the Colorado Rockies in 2013

38-year old righty closer Rafael Betancourt keeps rolling along for the Rockies in 2013.  He has pitched in 13 games (0 starts) for the Rockies so far this year and he is 1-0 with 8 saves, a 1.46 ERA and a 0.89 WHIP.  He has only given up 5 hits and 6 walks while whiffing 8 batters in his first 12 1/3 innings this year, which is impressive.  Betancourt has now pitched in 245 games (0 starts) in his first five years with the Rockies and he is 12-6 with 49 saves, a 2.86 ERA and a 0.96 WHIP.  Betancourt is currently #5 in Rockies’ history with his 49 saves and he could move up that list with a bullet if he keeps pitching well in 2013.

Jorge De La Rosa is off to a good start for the Colorado Rockies in 2013

32-year old lefty starting pitcher Jorge De La Rosa is off to a great start for the Rockies in 2013.  He has pitched in 5 games (all starts) for the Rockies so far this year and he is 2-2 with a 2.86 ERA and a 1.17 WHIP.  He has given up 22 hits and he has walked 11 batters in his first 30 1/3 innings for the Rockies this year while whiffing 26 batters.  He is in the last season of a 3-year, $31.5 million dollar deal that he signed back in the winter of 2010.  In the first two years of that deal, De La Rosa pitched in 13 games (all starts) in which he was 5-4 with a 4.39 ERA and a 1.28 WHIP.  The Rockies hope that De La Rosa can stay in one piece for the entire 2013 season.

Jhoulys Chacin is off to a good start for the Colorado Rockies in 2013

25-year old righty starting pitcher Jhoulys Chacin is off to a red hot start for the Rockies in 2013.  He has started 2 games for the Rockies so far this year and he is 1-0 with a 1.00 ERA and a 0.90 WHIP.  This is a good sign for the Rockies and Chacin, as he is coming off a rough 2012 season in which he pitched in 14 games (all starts) and he was 3-5 with a 4.43 ERA and a 1.62 WHIP.  Chacin has now pitched in 84 games (69 starts) in his first five years with the Rockies and he is 24-31 with a 3.60 ERA and a 1.35 WHIP.  Chacin has the biggest upside of any of the starters on the Rockies, so they need him to remain focused and motivated.

24-year old righty Jhoulys Chacin is re-establishing himself as the best starting pitcher the Rockies have since coming off the D.L. He has started 3 games for the Rockies since his return and he is 2-1 with a 1.50 ERA and a 1.00 WHIP. Chacin has now pitched in 8 games (all starts) overall this year for the Rockies and he is 2-4 with a 4.85 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP. He will likely be the ace of the Rockies’ rotation in 2013 as long as he can stay healthy and keep his head on straight.

Adam Ottavino has been rock solid for the Colorado Rockies so far this year

26-year old righty reliever Adam Ottavino has been pretty solid as a long reliever for the Rockies so far this year. He has pitched in 43 games (0 starts) for the Rockies so far this year and he is 5-1 with a 3.55 ERA and a 1.23 WHIP. Ottavino has only given up 50 hits while whiffing 64 batters in his first 63 1/3 innings, which is impressive, but he has also walked 28 batters and that is way too many. Still, even with his control issues, Ottavino has been a rock solid reliever for the Rockies so far this year.

22-year old righty starting pitcher Tyler Chatwood has looked really solid in August for the Rockies. He has started 4 games for the Rockies so far in August and he is 2-2 with a 3.93 ERA and a 1.36 WHIP. Chatwood has pitched in 11 games (4 starts) overall this year and he is 3-3 with 1 save, a 5.46 ERA and a 1.63 WHIP. The Rockies hope that Chatwood keeps rolling along now that he’s in his favorite role as a starting pitcher.

Josh Roenicke has pitched well for the Colorado Rockies this year

29-year old righty reliever Josh Roenicke has been rock solid for the Rockies so far this year. He has pitched in 42 games (0 starts) for the Rockies so far this year and he is 3-0 with a 2.48 ERA and a 1.38 WHIP. Roenicke has given up only 53 hits and he has walked 32 batters in 61 2/3 innings so far this year while whiffing 38 batters. He has been especially good so far in July. He has worked in 8 games (0 starts) so far this month and he is 0-0 with a 1.88 ERA and a 1.05 WHIP.

Francis has started 3 games so far in July for the Rockies and he is 1-1 with a 3.60 ERA and a 1.27 WHIP. He has now pitched in 8 games (all starts) for the Rockies so far this year and he is 2-2 with a 4.76 ERA and a 1.41 WHIP. Francis is now #3 in wins (57) and strikeouts (623) in Colorado Rockies’ history and he’s going to keep moving up the list as long as he keeps pitching well.
