Jamie Moyer of the Colorado Rockies made Major League History last Tuesday

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Throwing Well by chinmusic on Thursday 19 April 2012 at 9:01 am

49-year old lefty starting pitcher Jamie Moyer was outstanding last Tuesday Night against the San Diego Padres. He threw 7 innings in which he gave up 6 hits, 2 unearned runs and he walked 2 batters while whiffing only 1 batter. Moyer didn’t have a pitch break 80 miles per hour in this game as he is an artist on the mound. Moyer broke major league record that had stood since 1932, as he became the oldest pitcher to win a major league game, besting Jack Quinn by 81 days. Moyer’s win came oddly enough on the 66th anniversary of Quinn’s death in 1946. Moyer has now pitched in 3 games (all starts) for the Padres so far this year and he is 1-2 with a 2.55 ERA and a 1.30 WHIP. Moyer is now 32 wins away from 300 for a career, and I’m not betting against him getting it.

Matt Lindstrom has been solid for the Colorado Rockies so far this year

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Throwing Well by chinmusic on Thursday 7 July 2011 at 10:22 am

31-year old righty reliever Matt Lindstrom is pitching the best baseball of his career in 2011. Lindstrom has pitched in 38 games (0 starts) so far this year for the Rockies and he is 2-1 with 2 saves, a 2.86 ERA and a 1.33 WHIP. The reason for Lindstrom pitching so well is that he’s trusting his stuff and his defense as he has only walked 10 batters in his first 34 2/3 innings this year. Lindstrom could wind up closing later this year if the Rockies decide to deal Huston Street or he could get dealt, if the Rockies continue to falter in the standings.

Jhoulys Chacin has been dominating in June for the Colorado Rockies

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Throwing Well by chinmusic on Wednesday 22 June 2011 at 8:02 am

23-year old righty starting pitcher Jhoulys Chacin is turning into the ace of the Rockies’ pitching staff. In his four June starts, Chacin is 3-0 with a 1.01 ERA and a 0.97 WHIP. He has only given 12 hits in 26 2/3 innings so far in June. Chacin has now started 15 games for the Rockies this year and he is 8-4 with a 2.71 ERA and a 1.06 WHIP. Chacin has 11 quality starts for the Rockies this year, so he has been consistently very good for them. He has only given up 68 hits in 99 2/3 innings while whiffing 88 batters so far this year, which shows just how nasty he has been. Chacin has walked 40 batters this year and that has gotten him into some trouble at times. If he tightens up his control a little bit, he might start winning some Cy Young Awards.

Jason Hammel is off to a great start for the Colorado Rockies

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Throwing Well by chinmusic on Monday 9 May 2011 at 8:32 am

28-year old righty starting pitcher Jason Hammel is off to the best start of his major league career. He has pitched in 6 games (all starts) for the Rockies so far this year and he is 3-1 with a 2.63 ERA and a 1.25 WHIP. The Rockies hope this isn’t a mirage because they really need Hammel to pitch well this year because of all of the injuries in the starting rotation.
